Adults-only B&B on Stainsacre Lane near Whitby, just off the Cinder Path, with cosy rooms and hearty home-cooked food.

About The Windmill Inn

Stainsacre Lane sits on the edge of Whitby's countryside, close to the Cinder Path that draws walkers and cyclists out towards the coast, and it's here that The Windmill Inn makes its home. The surrounding lanes are quiet and green, with the sea and Whitby's attractions a short distance away, making this an easy base for exploring on foot, by bike, or by car.

Rooms are en-suite and adults-only, giving the inn a calm, settled feel rather than a bustling family atmosphere. Free WiFi, drinks in the room, and 24 hour reception cover the practical side, while the on-site restaurant and bar handle the rest. Breakfast is made with local ingredients and comes in generous portions, and packed lunches can be arranged for anyone heading out for the day. Kids meals are available too, and outdoor seating gives guests somewhere to sit with a drink when the weather allows.

Staff are noted for being friendly and helpful, and the whole place has a warm, welcoming character that suits a longer stay. Free on-site parking makes arriving straightforward, and golf, fishing, cycling and walking are all close by, along with other pubs and restaurants nearby for those who fancy a change of scene. Prices are reasonable for what's on offer, and the location just off the Cinder Path remains one of its biggest draws.

Was on holiday at a nearby caravan park and called in for tea to be met by a lovely welcome by Mick Mark and Honey! Got a table straight away and happy for us to have dog (gave her treats) and for was absolutely beautiful and excellent value! Well worth a visit!!

When my partner chose the windmill and we were driving past a near by retail park I didn't know what to expect (The pub is down a quiet lane off the main road). Similarly the outside of the pub did not match the lovely interior ( maybe a different colour, white, sign? and some flowers? , no offence intended). It's easy to judge, I apologise for doing so, but more importantly for me I haven't stayed in a more friendly and welcoming place with superb honest food ( complements again to the chef on his pie and amazing gravy!) in a long time. The breakfast was equally good with excellent local ingredients. The only down side was only having a bath in the room. My partner has mobility issues and struggled to get into and out of the bath. The room, particularly the bathroom could have done with a touch up of paint as well. That aside we had a lovely stay, at half the price of some of the other options we looked at ( I mean the breakfast with coffee would have been forty pounds for us both in Whitby) and would gladly stay again without hesitation. I wish you all well, fabulous people♥️.

Nice pub. Good atmosphere. Very long wait for food though (almost an hour) and it wasn't very busy at all - dining room was half empty. Food was 'ok' but no more than that. Pie was overcooked and the parma ham around the chicken was rock hard. Portion sizes were generous however and reasonably priced. Overall wouldn't return but would drop in for a pint.
