About The Witching Post Inn

The Witching Post Inn occupies a traditional spot on Whitby's High Street, the kind of pub-hotel where an open fire and beamed character set the tone rather than any modern makeover. Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and drinks available in room, and the whole place runs on a friendly, unfussy footing with 24 hour reception for those arriving at odd hours.

The restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, with a menu that includes a well-regarded Sunday roast and a solid range of vegan dishes, all served in generous portions at fair prices. Breakfast is included, packed lunches can be arranged for the day ahead, and there's a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating for warmer weather. Meeting rooms are also available for those combining business with a stay by the coast.

Whitby Abbey is close by, and the surrounding area offers walking and cycling routes as well as fishing nearby, with further pubs and restaurants dotted around the town. Free on-site parking makes it easy to explore North Yorkshire further afield, and pets are welcome for those travelling with dogs.

A proper traditional English pub with exceptionally welcoming owners and staff, serving delicious pub fare. We dropped in for dinner without a reservation as a family with 3 small kids, were made to feel extremely welcome, and the food was clearly fresh, homemade, and enjoyed by all - even our fussy eaters. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the next night! Will be going back when next in the area.

I love it here! I went on a solo explore day around the north Yorkshire Moors, and this pub came up as a recommendation for gluten free. The menu is well marked, and the food was delish! I got the gammon, egg and chips and it was amazing. The landlord was absolutely lovely too and was so nice to chat with while I ate. The food was very reasonably priced and super tasty. If I'm in the area, I would come back. The fire was burning, the vibes were great and it all felt very homely. Definitely try this place if you're in the area!

Nice pub with friendly staff, especially the lady behind the bar who chatted with our young son. Nice to see some local ales too. We had the steak and Guiness pie and the duck with orange sauce. The duck itself was really nice, but the mash with both dishes was quite dry and lacking in butter. The veg was given in one small dish to share between us, and was clearly frozen carrot sticks and frozen green beans, which was disappointing considering the rationing and the price. The steak and Guinness pie was served in a bowl beside the mash but was just some stew with a bit of puff pastry on top, my husband was disappointed. The kids meal seemed pricey for what it was. Pub meals are expensive these days, you want to support local businesses but the value for money just isn't there a lot of the time. We personally wouldn't recommend The Witching Post Inn for food, but seems a decent pub for a drink when passing by.

5 of us booked in for Sunday Lunch today. The landlord was very friendly and dogs are welcome. We had the table in the naughty corner. Our order was promptly taken and when the roasts arrived they did not disappoint. There were three meats on offer and they were all cooked perfectly. Plenty of piping hot veg, gravy and all the trimmings. We also managed to find a bit of room for dessert. We would highly recommend The Witching Post Inn for just a drink or a full meal. Deserves the 5 stars I have given.
