About Horseshoe Hotel

The Horseshoe Hotel has the feel of a classic English inn, with a cosy, fire-warmed character that runs through its bar and public rooms. Set centrally in Whitby, it puts guests within easy reach of the town's historic landmarks while offering free on-site parking, a rare bonus for a central location.

Bedrooms come with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and drinks available in the room, along with breakfast and round-the-clock reception for whenever you arrive or need something. The restaurant is a genuine draw, known for hearty, homemade cooking including a well-regarded Sunday lunch and proper Whitby fish and chips, with kids' menus available too. The bar carries a decent range of beers, and there's a garden and outdoor seating for fine days, plus room service if you'd rather not move at all.

Staff are consistently described as warm and accommodating, and the whole place is dog-friendly, so pets are genuinely welcome rather than just tolerated. Outside the door, Whitby offers walking and cycling routes, pubs, bars and restaurants, and plenty of entertainment nearby, making the Horseshoe a comfortable, unpretentious base for exploring the town.

Stayed here one night on the coast to coast trail. Great location and lovely well maintained beer garden. Very friendly service. Dog friendly. Great food for dinner - small menu which indicates freshly made, very good chili con carne. Breakfast good - porridge the best I had on the trail. Rooms need a refurb but perfectly serviceable and contrary to some other reviews, very clean. What's not to like!

We love the horseshoe! Great place for a drink outside in the garden, had a Sunday lunch today and it was delicious, both our meats were cooked perfectly with all tasty veg and gravy. We will definitely be back again for lunch, shame the outdoor bar isn’t back open as that was a great touch from previous visits.

We were going to stay in our campervan fir 3 x nighrmts, first impressions were fab as its picture perfect. We ordered food it still hadnt arrived after a hour, we ordered fish n chips and a parmo, a member of staff came over and said they had ran out of parmos after a hour of ordering, hubby ordered a burger, 30 mins after it all came out, it was ok, the owner who was drunk but a friendly drunk took herself to bed at 8.00, whilst we were eating a neighbour stormed in moaning about a dog going mad in a van, but was so incredibly rude, we went bed and was woken up by a cockerol at 3.30 and would not shut up all morning. We got up early and took train to whitby, we came back and left. Could be amazing under right ownership, staff were fab.

Rooms spacious but would have been great if they were cleaned more than one time in the week we stayed!! Staff (apart from Eddy and Alexander in the smaller Bar by Uber doors) miserable and not kind at all. No eye contact, no pleasantries, absolutely no personality. Some bar staff growled if they did not get a tip!! Even if they only served you 1 glass is tap water.. ridiculous!! Hotel carpets grubby and could do with a major clean or replacement. The only good about staying at this hotel is the location- central to everything. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel then this would be it but from a customer pov zero score. Mrs W
