About Combermere Abbey
Combermere Abbey occupies a medieval estate a few miles from Whitchurch on the Shropshire-Cheshire border, its history stretching back to a twelfth-century Cistercian abbey later remodelled into a country house. Today the estate offers luxury self-catering stays rather than conventional hotel rooms, spread across nine Courtyard Cottages, adults-only suites in the North Wing, and the standalone Stone Lodge.
Guests have use of 1,000 acres of parkland, including Victorian walled gardens, a pleasure garden, garden wood and a fruit tree maze, giving plenty of ground to explore without leaving the estate. The scale and grandeur of the setting also make it a well-known wedding and events venue, so cottages are typically let around the estate's calendar of private functions.
Its position close to the Cheshire and Shropshire border puts Combermere within easy reach of Whitchurch, Nantwich and Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, making it a distinctive base for a self-catering break built around gardens, walking and quiet countryside rather than nightlife.

We got married at Combermere Abbey on 14.06.2026 and it was the most perfect experience from start to finish. From viewing the venue with Chelcie, to all of the planning with Jessica and booking the accommodation with Rachel. Each and every person was so accommodating, informative and professional. The venue itself is absolutely stunning but to have such a fabulous team made the lead up to our wedding amazing. The day before our wedding we met Carol who would be looking after us on the day and making sure everything ran as it should. Wow! Words can’t express how much Carol really did to make our day perfect, she went the extra mile, even making sure our little boys had drinks all day. She is an absolute asset to Combermere Abbey and we are so incredibly grateful for everything she did for us! Jessica assisted Carol on the day and ensured that everything we had planned was executed and she really did exactly that! I cannot express how grateful we are to have got married in a stunning venue with such lovely people. The North Wing was like a real life dream, the views are incredible and the service is 10/10!!! All of our family and friends were so impressed with their cottages. The feedback we have had from the whole day was incredible. Thank you Carol for truly making our wedding - you are one in a million! And thank you to Jessica and all of her team for bringing our dream wedding to life. Such a lovely wedding here, carol really went above and beyond for all guests. Especially the bride and bridesmaids, could not thank her enough made the day go so much more smoothly and was really reassuring for the bride in the morning so made it a lot less stressful making sure everything was ready. We recently had our wedding at Combermere and could not recommend more. From the initial meeting with Becky who was so lovely when we had to suddenly change venues (long story!), to fabulous Jess who helped us put the day together and then Carol who could not have done more for us on the day to make sure our every need was met. The venue is beautifully looked after and all of the staff - especially the bar and waiting staff - could not do more. We all stayed over in the North Wing and the cottages which was a wonderful experience. It was a wonderful day and that is all credit to the team at Combermere, who we could not thank enough!

We had the absolute pleasure of working here yesterday. What an incredible venue. Beautiful buildings, meticulously maintained grounds and a warm and welcoming events team. Well worth the 3 hour drive and we would definitely love to come back. Perfect wedding and events venue.
