A historic High Street inn in Woking with an on-site restaurant, garden and free parking, best known for its afternoon tea.

About The Talbot Inn

Afternoon tea and a well-regarded breakfast are among the main draws at The Talbot Inn, a pub-hotel right on Woking's High Street. Some of the rooms retain an old-fashioned, historic character, and all come with en-suite bathrooms, with family rooms and accessible rooms also available. It's worth noting that a few rooms have been described as needing better upkeep, so it's fair to expect some variation in condition across the building.

Guests can eat in the restaurant or bar, with kids' meals catered for and drinks available in-room. Outside there's a garden and outdoor seating area, and the property also functions as a wedding venue, complete with a bridal suite and meeting rooms for those planning events. Free WiFi, a snack bar and free on-site parking, including an electric vehicle charge point, round out the practical facilities, and pets are welcome.

The staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the inn is generally felt to offer good value for money. Its central Woking location puts guests within reach of nearby pubs, restaurants, entertainment and a golf course, making it a convenient base for exploring the town.

The outside looks very nice but it all starts to go wrong when you go inside. Well maybe it was only our room but the 4 poster rooms seemed advertised as the better ones but they were pretty poorly kept in our view. The carpet was mixed and matched and the further along the corridor you went the messier it got. The actual room was dated and messy, dried water leak patches on the ceiling that no one was thought to paint over, very dated furniture and tv, the curtains looked dirty and decades old for sure. The bathroom was old with again plaster damage and just generally in need of maintenance. Maybe the other rooms in the outbuilding were better but i can only judge on what i saw. The dining lounge was okay but again the food was only okay. We did eat there towards the end of the evening - only 8:15pm - but thats last orders which again for a thursday night is very early. The bar area was not inviting at all and the room was warm with no easy way of opening the windows to create a breeze. And on ou particular stay there was a coach brilliantly parked outside so that when you opened the curtains the coach windows were overlooking us. Thats presumably not a common occurence but was just the icing on the cake. Sure the location is decent enough but i also judge based on whether i would go back again and there is no way i would go back again unless they have invested in the interior. This is absolutely not worthy of a 4 star. Its comfortable as a 3 star but even then i would much ratehr try somewhere else than this place. Maybe they specialise in accomodating coaches of older people who perhaps are less likely to complain but my eyesight was absolutely fine and this is what i saw.

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing stay and not the experience we expected. The room was extremely hot and uncomfortable, with no air conditioning, which made it difficult to relax. The overall atmosphere felt awkward and unwelcoming, with staff coming across as quite cold and making the environment feel uncomfortable during our stay. We ate at the hotel for dinner and were very disappointed with the quality of the food, especially considering the prices. The meal was expensive but unfortunately did not match the standard you would expect for the cost. Staff didn’t seem like they cared at all when I expressed my thoughts on the food. Drinks were also very overpriced. The breakfast was another let down — basic items were missing, such as hash browns, which was disappointing considering the price of the stay. On checkout, we were charged an additional £10 for parking. As paying hotel guests, I found this disappointing and feel parking should either be included or made much clearer when booking. Overall, the value for money was poor. Between the uncomfortable room, expensive food and drinks, extra charges, and the overall atmosphere, this was not the relaxing hotel experience we were hoping for.

Horrible grubby rooms, cobwebs everywhere, dried drips all down the walls, manky blind. Over 30 degrees and no air con or fans available. Glad they served juice with breakfast so I didnt choke on the dry bacon! Reserved a table for dinner. Despite no other tables present, was told I had to order at the bar! I took my money somewhere with better customer service and nicer ambience. Asked how my stay was I replied it could have been a lot better. That was met with the same level of enthusiasm as all the staff appear to have for working in this place. Terrible experience!

Staff are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Food in the restaurant was very good. Location is great for visiting local attractions. Room although a little dated was well equipped and very comfortable. It was a pleasure to spend time in the 15th century building. All in all good value for money and would definitely stay here again.
