Working farm campsite in the meadows between Muker and Thwaite
About Usha Gap Campsite
Usha Gap sits in upper Swaledale between Muker and Thwaite, right in the middle of what is arguably the most photographed stretch of hay meadow in the national park. It's a working farm first and a campsite second, which sets the tone: sheep in the next field, a farmhouse at the gate, and a good deal of peace. Pitching is on level riverside grass enclosed by drystone walls, and the setting under Kisdon Hill is hard to better anywhere in the Dales.
Facilities are simple but well kept—hot showers, toilets, washing-up area, a drying room for wet walking kit and a fridge-freezer for campers to use. A small farm shop sells local produce, milk, eggs and basic supplies. There's no electric hook-up, no Wi-Fi and mobile signal is patchy at best, but that's entirely in keeping with the place. Tents, caravans and motorhomes are all welcome, and dogs are fine on leads.
The walking from the gate is exceptional. The Pennine Way passes close by, the riverside path to Keld and Kisdon Force is a straightforward afternoon, and Muker village is ten minutes away on foot with a pub, tea shop and well-known wool shop. Come in late May or June and the meadows around the site are thick with wildflowers before cutting.

What visitors say
We have just returned from 3 nights at Usha Gap. It is a really lovely campsite on a working farm in Swaledale. A perfect location, quiet and very beautiful. The campsite is low key but provides everything you need : excellent clean facilities, good hot showers, a fridge and freezer where you can put small items, a little shop, lots of thoughtful small things which make a big difference. Muker village with a nice pub and a shop is a 10 min walk away along a lovely footpath through meadows. We had a wonderful stay, thank you very much. One of the best campsites we have stayed at, we will return soon.

Louise and her family are such lovely, friendly people, and it’s obvious they all work together as a team to make Usha Gap a fantastic, relaxing, and exceptionally clean campsite. Nothing feels too much trouble, and the warm welcome really makes a difference. The site shop, run from the farm, sells some wonderful local produce and is a great touch for campers wanting to support local businesses. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful, with walks to suit everyone — from simple, easy strolls to much more challenging hikes for experienced walkers. There’s also a pub less than a mile away, which is community owned, and everyone working there was incredibly friendly. The food was excellent too — I can highly recommend the slow-cooked beef rib and the cheesecake, both were absolutely delicious. All in all, Usha Gap is a lovely, clean, and friendly campsite in a stunning location, and we would happily return.

Incredible stay here at Usha Gap! We came as a group of trail runners and Louise couldn't have been more helpful in the booking and run up to the weekend. Really friendly, easy to book. Very impressive campsite facilities. Great little shop with local meats and all the amenities you would need. Perfect location for exploring swaledale - endless trail running routes. Cracking little pub just a 10 min walk down the road. So peaceful. Super clean and plentiful toilets/hot showers. Lovely lending library, phone charging lockers (with USB C!!) Everyone from the group was commenting that this was the best campsite we've stayed in so far on our travels! Nice to have free firepits when alot of other campsites charge for them too. Would recommend Usha Gap in a heartbeat to anyone heading to Swaledale.

Great campsite. Facilities excellent, including free lockers to charge your phone in (each locker had a plug socket plus 2 USB sockets). Underfloor heating in loo/shower area. They farm beef and lamb and sell the best beef kebabs and lamb burgers! The short walk to the pub (also great for food and brilliant, friendly service) was so pretty, through the meadow path. Everything was nice and quiet after 10:30pm. We heard cuckoos...not heard them since I was a child! Lots of midges, of course, but we weren't bitten (took repellent). They provided you with a campfire pit (made out of disused washing machine drums on legs)...they sell the wood...all in all a super place. I'd recommend!
