About Hope and Anchor Hotel - Inn
Alnwick Castle is within easy reach of the Hope and Anchor Hotel - Inn, and the Northumberland coast is close by too, making this a handy base for exploring both the town and the surrounding countryside. Golf, fishing and watersports are all nearby for those who want more than sightseeing, while the town itself has plenty of pubs, restaurants and other eateries within walking distance.
The inn itself has eight en-suite rooms above a bar and restaurant on Northumberland Street. The kitchen leans Italian, with wood-fired pizzas and pasta dishes proving popular alongside a well-liked fish and chips, though it's worth knowing the fish and chips doesn't always come out as crisp as it should. Staff are attentive and the atmosphere is warm, and the food and drink are generally considered good value, particularly when deals are on offer.
Breakfast is included, there's a garden to sit out in, and practical extras such as luggage storage and 24 hour reception make it straightforward for guests coming and going. Pets are welcome too, which suits those exploring the coast and countryside with dogs in tow.

Cannot comment on the rooms. Location is centre of alnmouth so that's fine. We did stay for dinner though and paid 38.00 for two very very poor fish and chips. Fish was undercooked. Chips were basically reheated from lunchtime...or thats certainly how they looked and indeed tasted. What was more concerning is that we didnt notice a service charge placed on our bill. I abhore places who feel it necessary to put a service charge onto the bill as standard. If i want to tip I will do so. To have it sneakily added to my bill without someone stating that its on there, to me is a disgusting modern day practise. Highly recommend you actually ask people BEFORE they pay the full bill, if they want to tip or not. Or.....just leave it up to the people. If the service warrants it. They'll tip. If its on the menu in small print, reprint them without it on. Cannot describe how much I abhore this practise. Very VERY poor. Will not go back

Just had a night stay at the hope and anchor. We stayed here 10 year ago. The place has had a massive upgrade since then. The room was amazing. Nice and clean and a huge bed. The bathroom was well decorated. Fantastic shower. Friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. Such a beautiful place to stay. Well situated. Great pubs and the beach is just breathtaking. Oh and dog friendly which is a big bonus for us

A fantastic meal in the restaurant. We had steak and chips and fish and chips. Portions are generous and tasty. I had the best steak I have ever had. I watched some of the dishes leaving the kitchen and they all looked amazing.

We have travelled many times from our home in Newcastle just to order take away fish and chips from this establishment and sit down at the beach to enjoy them. I am coeliac so to find a gluten free takeaway is a blessing but the standard of fish and chips is fantastic. Beautiful fleshy fish with be best batter EVER ( not just GF). Chips are like triple cooked chips restaurant style. My husband isn’t GF and agrees thry are the very best. We travelled up there today with my 91 year old mother and they did not disappoint. Ordered by phone at 12.30 for 1pm and everything was ready to collect on time. Well done Hope and Anchor ( and sun was actually shining! )

Diners like this restaurant's delicious Italian-themed food, including wood-fired pizzas and pasta dishes, as well as the fantastic fish and chips. They also highlight the friendly, attentive staff, warm atmosphere, and good value, especially with deals.
Some reviews mention the fish and chips can be overcooked.
