About Rydal Lodge

Rydal Lodge suits travellers after a slower-paced Lake District break, particularly those coming to walk the fells or explore with a dog in tow. With just eight rooms, this is a small, quiet hotel rather than a big resort, set by Rydal Water with garden and mountain views on the doorstep and Ambleside within easy reach.

Rooms are cosy and en-suite, with family rooms available for those travelling with children, and free WiFi throughout. Breakfast is freshly cooked and can be adapted to individual preference, and packed lunches are available for anyone heading out onto the fells for the day. There's a bar on site, along with a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating for relaxing after a walk, plus free on-site parking and 24 hour reception.

The location works well for walking and cycling, with fishing, horse riding and watersports also nearby, and pubs, restaurants and other eateries within reach for evenings out. Pets are welcome, and the staff have a reputation for being knowledgeable about local routes and happy to help plan a day out. It's a straightforward, comfortable base for exploring rather than a destination in itself.

A gorgeous stay with antique charm. The host Iain was very welcoming, helpful with local advice and we enjoyed having lovely chats with him at breakfast. The breakfast was varied (full english, cereal, fruit, toast etc.) and all tasted super. It was particularly nice to have so many options that were local produce. The hotel was good value for money and is set in the most beautiful location surrounded by natural beauty and close to Rydal Lake and Rydal Caves only a 20 minute walk away. We would definitely recommend!

Just come back from a 2 night stay. Fabulous host and looked after us with a lovely fresh breakfast. Coeliac friendly. If you are looking for a modern , perfect place to stay then this is not for you. But if you want clean, comfortable and lots of lovely old touches then this is for you. Fabulous walks from the door . Enjoyable stay x

Highly recommend staying here. Ian was so welcoming and attentive as the host of Rydal Lodge. I was booked to stay in a double room but was given the option to have a suite for my 2 night stay. This was beautifully presented with views over the garden. The hospitality tray was amply stocked, with lovely daffodil mugs. The walled garden sits on the edge of the river Rothay with seating. There is a private walk through the gardens to the bridge leading to Rydal Water. Breakfast both mornings was excellent and I had cereal and a veggie full English. Ian is the chef as well as host, cooking up a treat. Rydal Lodge is set in easy reach of some stunning walks & attractions. I travelled by public transport for this visit but there's parking on site. Highly recommend if you're looking for a personalised touch for you short or longer stay.
