About Travellers Rest Inn

Grasmere sits at the heart of some of the Lake District's best-known walking country, within easy reach of Helvellyn and Thirlmere, and it's here that Travellers Rest Inn makes its home. This is a small hotel with just 10 en-suite rooms, adults only, and geared firmly towards those who want fells by day and a fire by night.

The restaurant and bar are the main draw, with a menu of hearty pub classics including a well-regarded Sunday roast, suet pudding and sticky toffee pudding. Breakfast is included, packed lunches can be arranged for walkers, and the garden and outdoor seating make the most of the mountain views. An open fire and cosy public rooms give the place a warm, traditional feel, and the team is generally friendly and attentive, though a few guests have found service inconsistent at busier times.

Free on-site parking, free WiFi and luggage storage cover the practical side, and pets are welcome throughout. Beyond the door there's walking and cycling country on the doorstep, fishing and watersports nearby, plus other pubs and restaurants within easy reach for those wanting a change of scene.

Really enjoyed our visit here. The food was excellent and you could tell a lot of care went into everything we ordered. We had the short rib and the smash burger — both were packed with flavour and cooked perfectly. The drinks were equally good, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Even though it was a quieter time of year, the service never slipped. Staff were attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely looked after without overdoing it. Would definitely return next time we’re in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.

Booked here for Sunday Lunch with 3 friends, very friendly, helpful Barman. Made to feel welcome and given free water. Dinner was over and above a standard Sunday dinner, good quality and good portions, especially the Red Cabbage. Would definitely recommend

Didn't stay here but visited for an evening meal. The quality of the food was excellent and the service was very good too. I'd say it was a bit more expensive than other pubs in the area though. The views of the hills from this pub are awesome. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the draft ales. I tried two and both tasted off. Had to return the second one because it was so bad.

Visited last week on the off chance they had a table for lunch. The service was great, the food was amazing, my husband had fish and chips (and a cheeky bowl of onion rings) and I had the fish goujon sandwich. I have dreamt about that sandwich, it was delicious. Lovely pub, lots of history. Give it a visit of you're in the area
