Working farm campsite at the entrance to Great Langdale, seven miles from Ambleside
About Baysbrown Farm Campsite
Baysbrown Farm Campsite occupies several fields on a working hill farm at the entrance to Great Langdale valley, around seven miles from Ambleside. The site keeps its agricultural character intact—fell sheep graze the surrounding slopes and the dramatic outline of the Langdale Pikes fills the view from most pitches. Campers consistently praise the spectacular mountain scenery and the owners' friendly, helpful approach, though facilities remain deliberately basic: toilet and shower blocks are provided, but there's no shop and limited electric hook-up across most of the field, reflecting the back-to-basics ethos that draws walkers and climbers year after year.
The farm-track access suits tents and smaller campervans best, and dogs are welcome throughout. Campfires are permitted in designated areas—a rarity among Lake District sites—and the position at the foot of Great Langdale makes this one of the best-placed campsites in the district for serious fell walking, with routes onto the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags all starting within a short walk.

This was our favourite site we stayed at (out of 3) whilst in the lakes. Simple, sweet and stunning! It was quiet when we arrived. Mid week, no school holidays. Very pleasent stay. A chilled vibe throughout. Can't fault the sound of a stream, sheep and birds to fall asleep too. Then there's the view. Fantastic. We will be back for sure.

Fab campsite for tents and small camper vans. No hook up. Beautiful scenery great as a base for hiking . Showers were clean and warm . Theres a charging point for phones for small charge and an honesty box for home made cakes and butty van for breakfasts

Decent campsite in great location looking down the Langdale valley. Plenty of pitches and space. The showers and toilet block were clean and functional. The shower was free but the water pressure in the shower wasn’t as good as I expected Other than that it’s a great little place and I would definitely stay again

Lovely welcome. Busy weekend and we did end up with people set up very close despite lots of space (tent 1-2 metres away). Quiet overnight, good showers and clean toilets. Unfortunately no hand drier in mens, and womens hand drier not very effective.
