Kinnaird Castle - Lauderdale Apartment
Angus
Kinnaird Estate sprawls across 7,000 acres of low-lying land between Montrose Basin and Brechin, adjoining the River Southesk. The grounds hold paths to follies, a private lake, and views across to the river itself. Red squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and ospreys move through the trees; salmon and freshwater pearls inhabit the water. The Lauderdale Apartment occupies the first floor of Kinnaird Castle, a property the current owners' family has held since 1400.
The apartment has three bedrooms sleeping six: one with a zip-and-link super kingsize (convertible to two singles), one with a super kingsize and ensuite bath, and one with two single beds sharing a jack-and-jill ensuite. The living space is open plan, with a woodburner, Freeview Smart TV, and a kitchen equipped for full self-catering. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are provided. One pet stays free of charge. The property sits on private land with parking for two cars; no smoking indoors.
The estate suits those drawn to outdoor pursuits—fly fishing by arrangement, cycling on quiet roads through the grounds, use of a private tennis court—as well as anyone wanting a slower pace. The spring water supply and unfenced lake on the grounds are worth knowing about if you're travelling with young children.
