About Appleby Manor Country House Hotel
For travellers wanting a relaxed base between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, Appleby Manor Country House Hotel on Roman Road makes a comfortable choice. It suits couples after a spa break as much as those touring the surrounding fells and dales, with 31 rooms set around a garden and free on-site parking for anyone arriving by car.
Bedrooms are traditionally furnished and come with the usual comforts expected of a country house hotel, and the on-site restaurant and bar serve a varied dinner menu alongside a well-regarded breakfast. The spa is a particular draw, with a hydrotherapy pool and hot tubs that guests can access as part of their stay, adding real value to the price. There's also a garden, meeting rooms, and facilities for weddings, plus 24 hour reception and porter service for a smooth arrival.
Staff are generally warm and attentive, though service has occasionally been inconsistent, worth bearing in mind if you're after faultless polish rather than a friendly, informal welcome. Appleby-in-Westmorland itself gives easy reach into Cumbria's wider landscape, making the hotel a sensible spot to unwind after a day exploring.

What guests say
A lovely Hotel! I was particularly interested in the history of the building and the staff were absolutely full of knowledge and very accommodating. There are a lot of original Art Deco pieces which gives this place a special feel. Dinner was OK, not spectacular, but OK. The GLUTEN FREE selection is varied and the effort is there. I would stay again.

We had a truly lovely stay lovely night at Appleby Manor. The garden room that we stayed is was very nice and comfortable.En-suite had a very large walk in shower. A complimentary small bottle of of Prosecco was in the room for our arrival. We are in the restaurant and had a delicious meal! Our freshly cooked to order breakfast was also delicious. Staff were extremely helpful & friendly. We had a problem with the heating in our room which was felt with instantly when reported. I cannot recommend recommend this hotel more highly. You will not be disappointed.

Spent a weekend here in a spa break. The only let down was the spa. The staff were excellent in there but the facilities are poor and small. I had a massage and the masseur was excellent and very knowledgeable. The room was fantastic, all food was excellent and the hotel itself it’s a little gem. Very pleased with the stay. The staff are all excellent and a credit to the hotel. It’s about a twenty minute walk into the village, not much to do there , but all rooms have Netflix, Amazon etc on the tv’s

Great smooth pro check in, room was ready when we arrived an hour and a half early. The room was on the top floor, felt like the loft, so many stairs. It was cozy, clean with lush towels and a very firm spotless linen king size bed. The furniture was in keeping with a building a couple of centuries ago. Had a tasty lunch in the comfortable, cool restaurant with fab views. We were booked in for the 2 hour spa journey from 4-6 and we were really looking forward to some serious R&R. We were not disappointed. This place is so clean and well thought out. The layout is excellent, we tried everything, THe Hydro pool, heated to perfection the jacuzzi type beds are so much fun The outdoor jacuzzi x2 both immaculate, again lovely warm temp, sipping a rose, special. The 3 heat forms Sauna steam and some sort of mint spray one. The sauna and steam were clean and good sizes, the smelly mint one did nothing for me, the same as the foot sinks. Must mention breakfast. Such a good selection of fruit, yoghurt, cereal, juices jams, honey etc. The pastries were so fresh, a must try. Our opted full cooked breakfast was hot and so cleanly presented. My husband noted that it was one of the best looking full English he had ever seen and the taste did not disappoint. Our much anticipated evening meal exceeded expectations, although choice is limited and not the cheapest we have encountered, the meal throughout was one of the best amazingly cooked throughout all courses that we have both had in a long time. Well worth every penny. The unexpected extra touches are wonderful, and much appreciated, note to hotel - please dont stop these, it makes you stand out above the others. We were served canapés and amuse-bouche as well as super tasty bread. The service was exceptional, discreet and attentive throughout. We cannot wait to experience it all again tonight at our second night stay here. Posting a couple of pics of High Cup Nick, one of the best kept secret walks less then 10 minutes drive from the hotel. Cant believe I am scripting this only a few hours after posting review. We had a decent meal, although we felt rushed. Our waiter suggested we ordered coffee in the small conservatory area. My husband fancied a gamee of pool, so we played a couple of fun games. I went to the bar at 10.23 to ask for 2 Calypso coffee's only to be told that he had put cleaning fluid into the machine and he was unable to make is a filter coffee. After stating politely we wanted a Calypso coffee, he asked what one was?!?! ,I explained whst one was and that we had been served a lovely one the night before, he again said he was unable to make us one. We went to bed feeling deflated. Sorry hotel....but all of what I said previously regarding service has been slighted by the last 3 hours. Rushed restaurant service, we skipped pudding, advised to order coffee in bar. We spent well over £100 each evening. Then asking for what should have been a simple request a Calypso coffee the barman stated no filter coffee available as he had put.the cleaning chemicals in the machine. It was 22.23. Shocking 😲
