About New Crown Inn

The Bolton road through the Eden Valley countryside sets the scene for the New Crown Inn, a small pub-hotel just outside Appleby-in-Westmorland with the fells and farmland of Cumbria on its doorstep. It's the kind of village setting where a walk before dinner is part of the appeal, with the surrounding valley offering plenty of reason to linger.

There are four en-suite rooms, kept modern and comfortable, with free WiFi and drinks available in room. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are the real draw, with a menu that runs to vegetarian options alongside its well-regarded steak pie. Breakfast is included, and staff on site are known for being friendly and ready to help with local recommendations.

A garden gives outdoor space to enjoy in fine weather, and free on-site parking makes it an easy base for exploring the Eden Valley and Appleby-in-Westmorland's regional attractions. Other pubs, restaurants and entertainment can be found nearby, with 24 hour reception and luggage storage for those arriving early or leaving late.

Went for food and drinks. Loved the style and comfort of the restaurant/ bar. Nice staff with friendly tone. The food was good but my pie was sweet crumble pastry that usually goes on a dessert, this was a odd choice and made the overall pie hard to eat but the other dishes we had was great and done well. Good vegetarian options too. They advised though wait time would be 45 minutes which seems to be due to an event so maybe just a one time thing but advised me understaffed by only having 1 chief. Overall nice place and food but with small negatives. Will try again on a less busy time and a different dish.

Just had a Sunday Lunch - Sirloin of beef . Have to say it was perfect . Even the horseradish !! 2 roasters . 4 veg and a Yorkshire pud . No room for dessert. Was yummy . Pub is traditionally modern decor with a lovely family team and also a huge garden for sunny summer evenings. Will be back with the fam . And all the dogs they were welcomed too 😍

What an absolute gem this place is! Apologies for getting this review out later than expected after my stay in March. Firstly, thank you to Thomas and all the staff at the New Crown, from a fantastic welcome to their hospitality, it was impeccable. They readily made me feel at home. Nothing was ever too much trouble. I stayed in the single room, it was comfortable and fit for purpose it was spotlessly clean, as was the en-suite, not a mark anywhere. The standard of cleanliness could not be faulted it was of a really high standard. The food.... well... I've eaten in places around the world that pretend to be 5 star, the food at the New Crown is absolutely superb, the steak pie as mentioned in other reviews was superb, the pork bites and ribs were beautiful. My meals here were better than I had at the Ivy! They take great pride and care in all that they do! You really can't go wrong with this place and if I'm up that way for work again they will be first on my list. Thank you all for your time and hospitality. It was a pleasure to stay.
