Ballygroggan Farmhouse

Groups and larger families will find Ballygroggan Farmhouse works well as a base for a week away. The property sleeps 12 across six bedrooms—three doubles, one three-quarter double, and two rooms with single beds—along with two bathrooms and a separate toilet on each floor. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included, and the wifi means you can stay connected if needed. One small dog is welcome, provided it stays on a lead given the surrounding sheep farm. Smoking is not permitted.

The farmhouse sits high on a working sheep hill farm above the Kintyre coastline, reached by a long rural road that puts it genuinely away from things. From here you look out across rolling countryside toward the Sound of Kintyre, with Islay, Jura and Gigha visible on clear days, and on exceptional occasions, the Northern Ireland coast. Gauldrons Bay—a stony beach with volcanic outcrops—sits below and hosts a resident seal colony. Machrihanish beach and golf course lie close by, while the Kintyre Way walk passes through the farmyard for those wanting to explore on foot.

Inside, the ground floor holds a living room with TV and wood-burner, a dining room, and a kitchen equipped for cooking proper meals, with another wood-burner for atmosphere on cooler days. Upstairs are the bedrooms and a shower room. Outside there is garden furniture, a sitting area, parking for six cars, and a bike store. Two highchairs are available if you ask when booking.
