About Thorpe Cloud View Camping

Thorpe Cloud View occupies five hillside acres just outside the Peak District National Park, with level grass terraces overlooking the iconic Thorpe Cloud landmark at Dovedale. The location puts you within easy reach of Ashbourne (10 minutes' drive), the famous Stepping Stones (15 minutes) and Matlock Bath (20 minutes), with footpaths threading through the working farm itself – home to sheep, geese and chickens that give the place its authentic agricultural character.

The ethos here leans firmly toward peace and nature. Acoustic music is welcome (talented musicians only) until the 10.30pm quiet time, and firepits are allowed – either hire a fire basket from Ed the farmer or bring your own off-ground brazier. The farmhouse amenities block, 200 metres from pitches, offers free showers and toilets, plus there's a standpipe in the meadow. One practical note: the 500-metre single-track access and meadow itself can become tricky in wet weather, so campervans may be restricted to hardstanding during low season.

Dogs on leads are welcome year-round, provided they're calm around livestock, though single-sex groups and amplified music aren't permitted.

Incredible views and peaceful atmosphere The view is the absolute highlight of this campsite. It's built on terraces, so no one ever blocks your scenery — you always have a wide, open view. Ed, the owner, is incredibly kind and helpful. There aren’t many rules, but if anyone misbehaves, you’re even allowed to wake him up — that says it all. Facilities are very basic but perfectly fine. Barbecues and campfires are allowed, and firewood is available on-site. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area. Since groups aren't allowed, it’s especially recommended for families and couples looking for peace and quiet. Highly recommended — if only for the view.

Great place to stay for the price, we stayed one night with my partner for 25£. I had a hot shower, lovely views, the owner is a good, happy, helpful man. Its not well lit but I didnt mind as the sun and other campers did help. Will definitely stay here again 🤗 NO GROUPS ALLOWED THO.

Such a beautiful hideaway! Took our family (2 under 5yrs) on our first camping trip away and this was exactly the place we needed! A quiet, safe getaway with STUNNING views across to Thorpe cloud. Ed, the farmer was brilliant! Loved that we could hire firepits and all the bits we needed to warm up in the evening. As you can expect it was a sloped campsite at parts but honestly wasn't bad at all! Very comfortable and easy to pitch up. The pitches were clean. Toilets were clean (and regularly checked!) The washing up facilities were great. Will definitely be back!

Last minute booking and arrived after dark. Ed the farmer was very helpful and came to meet us, showing us a selection of pitches that we could choose. The site had stunning views over the peaks and a wild camping vibe with campfires allowed. Toilets and hot showers on site and fire pits/ wood provided if needed. A wonderful peaceful stay under the stars. Would definitely return
