What visitors say
This was a great day out. Much better (unexpectedly) than nearby Richmond castle. The castle was interesting with interesting history and structure. Good visitor engagement in all areas. The falconry was cool, as were the wild hogs. The cafe didn't feel particularly welcoming, but was nice enough. The Bolton Pie was great.

Bolton Castle is a striking and beautifully preserved fortress, with towering stone walls and a dramatic presence that dominates the surrounding landscape. Even before you step inside, the scale and condition of the castle make it a memorable visit, and the views across Wensleydale add even more atmosphere. The mix of history, architecture and open countryside gives the whole place a real sense of character, and it’s easy to spend time exploring the grounds, taking photos and soaking up the medieval feel. A fantastic stop for anyone who enjoys castles, heritage sites and scenic rural settings.

An absolutely fantastic day out. The castle itself has exactly the 'right' amount of preservation- not as sanitised as an English Heritage property, but clean, accessable and very well presented. The gardens are also wonderful; beautiful and extremely well maintained.

A fabulous afternoon out. Castle to explore, falconry, archery, wild boar feeding, and a great cafe and gift shop. But above all: amazing views over the Yorkshire moors and dales.
