Dukes Lodge

Babergh

Built as a council meeting house during the late 1300s wool trade, Dukes Lodge retains the physical presence of that era. Sloping wooden floors, wonky beams and vaulted ceilings mark the building's age, while an inglenook fireplace with wood burner anchors the living room. A rare arched door frame and fragments of original wall painting survive from centuries past. The restoration has kept this character intact without sacrificing the essentials: heating, hot water, Wi-Fi and a working kitchen with electric oven and gas hob.

The ground floor holds the living room with smart TV, plus a kitchen-dining space with stable doors opening to an enclosed garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms—one with a super kingsize bed, one with a kingsize—and a bathroom with bath, shower and heated towel rail. A separate toilet is also on the first floor. Bed linen, towels, electricity and Wi-Fi are provided; initial fuel for the wood burner is included. There is a covered well in the garden with a safety grill fitted.

The property sleeps four and is yours alone. An enclosed rear garden offers a terrace and seating area, plus barbecue facilities. Pets stay free. Rolling Suffolk countryside surrounds the village, with Lavenham, Long Melford and Bury St Edmunds nearby, as well as Constable Country. Three pubs are within reach. No smoking inside.
