Couples after something genuinely different will find it in Mind the Gap, a restored tube carriage from the Northern Line now permanently stationed at Apple Mount Retreat in Suffolk. This is the only privately converted London Underground train in the world, and staying here means sleeping in an actual piece of 1930s transport history. The whole property is yours alone—no shared walls, no other guests.
Everything you need fits neatly into the carriage's ground-floor layout: an open-plan living space with smart TV and dining area, a kitchenette with microwave, air fryer and coffee machine, a double bedroom, and a shower room. The essentials are covered—electricity, heating, wi-fi, bed linen and towels all included. A private decked area outside becomes your own retreat, furnished with seating and a barbecue, though the real draw is the two-person hot tub positioned to face open fields and farmland.
The site sits near Lavenham, a medieval market town, and an outdoor heated swimming pool (shared with other guests, open May to September) is available if you want a change of pace. Mind the Gap is adults-only, with no smoking allowed. There is parking for one car on-site.
