The Red Lion Bakewell

Wow! Incredible experience. The location is perfect, the room was gorgeous and spacious with a great view and lovely amenities, and the pub was excellent. Not only were the staff lovely and super accomodating, but the food was top tier - best chicken schnitzel I’ve ever had! 100% would recommend!

We spent one Sunday night at the Red Lion, which we felt overall was long enough. Fantastic central location. We used disabled parking so we were quite close. The staff were friendly. We were greeted at 3.45pm, checked in easily and shown to our room. We were told that the last food orders were at 4.15pm. On entering the room with holdals and shoping bags, it was a bit akward and tight as there was a table outside the door (no purpose other than an a place for the artificial squirting smelly -which there were a few on the landing) and on entering a freestanding clothes rail. A fan was provided as it was very hot. There was tea, coffee, hot chocolate & biscuits in the room plus a selection of items for breakfast left in a basket; porridge pots, breakfast biscuits, orange juice - great idea as there is no hot breakfast available. The room overall was clean and comfortable, however the bathroom needs a good clean and minor maintenance. After 9pm when the pub shuts and on leaving in the morning, you have to use the steep steel stairs out the back, not ideal. We ordered two meals at 4.10pm. We went to sit down in the left hand side of the pub, but the smell of stale urine from the toilets engulfed the whole side - it stank - so we moved the the right side of the pub. Our meal took over 40 minutes to arrive, there was only us at this point waiting for food. We ordered a £30 mixed grill, we looked on in disbelief at the tiny piece of chicken and steak (ordered rare) were cooked till they were dry and burnt along with pretty much everything else on the plate. We sent it back, got a refund and went across the road to another pub (forgotten what it's called) the food was lovely.

Lovely friendly welcome, clean and nicely decorated room and great bathroom. Plenty of tea/coffee and biscuits. Also a great selection of goodies for breakfast. We ate here the night we stayed and there was a great choice on the menu and the food was delicious. All the staff were really helpful and friendly. A great place to stay and highly recommend

A fantastic, traditional pub. Lovely bars and super outdoor seating area. Great beer, food and exceptional staff. With friends, family or alone, you’re made very welcome. What more could you want? Excellent!
