Set in the Cairngorms National Park with camping pods, a shepherd's hut, a communal cabin, and a tea room!

About Howe of Torbeg

Tucked into the Cairngorms National Park near Ballater, Howe of Torbeg strikes a lovely balance between creature comforts and wild Highland setting. Stay in a birch luxe camping pod or the juniper shepherd's hut, both nicely appointed, and gather in the communal cabin when the weather turns—or warm up in the on-site tea room. Families are welcome, and with year-round opening you can chase the seasons across Royal Deeside.

The facilities cover the essentials—hot showers, drinking water, proper loos—though you'll need to leave pets at home and go offline, as there's no WiFi. That said, with exceptional ratings from previous guests and mountain trails on the doorstep, most visitors seem more than happy to disconnect for a few days.

We stayed for one night at the end of April and really enjoyed it! The location is stunning and the views are second to none. The cabins were so cosy and we ordered marshmallows and logs for the campfire as an extra, which was a lovely touch. The shower/toilet facilities were good too, as well as the designated parking for each cabin. Be aware that to get to the toilets and car park from the cabins, you have to walk up a short but very steep slope. The only thing that was a shame for us was the noise made by a group who were sat in 'The Snug', they were drinking and singing at the top of their lungs in there until 11pm which kept us awake as we were in the next cabin to it. However the site itself is beautiful, would stay again but request a cabin further up the site.

Nicole and Iain were fab hosts, kind and helpful. The sheperds hut is so cosy with the stove on. Everything is beautifully clean and well cared for, including the shared shower block and snug. The stargazing event was great- even on a cloudy night! Would definitely love to return! A truly wonderful escape from the city into a place of stunning natural beauty and deliciously clean air.

This was an unexpected and wonderful find. Our camping pod was clean, comfortable, well insulated and smelt lovely. The pods are above a stream or river which is relaxing to listen to and the views are stunning. We had everything we needed and the hosts are really helpful with excellent communication. Only thing to bare in mind is this may not be suitable for people with reduced mobility due to the slopes. The location is 8mins drive from Ballater with an excellent choice of eateries and shops.

Great surprise! A cozy cabin in the middle of nature, fantastic views and with all you need to make a fire and your own bbq. Lovely place to feel the nature and relax. Shared toilets in perfect conditions (there are few cabins so the toilet conditions are perfect even being shared).
