About Rathlin Island Wild Camping
Rathlin Island sits six miles off the Antrim coast, reached by ferry from Ballycastle, and remains wonderfully unspoiled – wild camping only, with no formal facilities. Most campers pitch in the harbourside field beside McCuaig's Bar, whose welcoming owners are happy to accommodate tents (ring ahead to let them know you're coming). It's a brilliantly remote base for exploring the island's RSPB Seabird Centre, where colonies of puffins, guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes put on a spectacular show, and for walking the clifftop paths with Atlantic views stretching toward the Giant's Causeway on the mainland. Note that dogs aren't permitted, and you'll be entirely self-sufficient gear-wise, but McCuaig's Bar provides hot meals and a cosy refuge after days spent birdwatching and beachcombing. Utterly special for anyone seeking true off-grid adventure.

Amazing Experience ! Location, accommodation, cleanliness and condition were all excellent. We are 2x adults and 2x small kids. Lovely hosts, they came and picked up all our gear from the ferry terminal, access made sure we knew where everything was. The pods are only 10 mins walk from the ferry, in a beautiful secluded location surrounded by fields and right next to the sea. These are not negatives, but things to consider : 1. You need to bring your own bedding 2. Depending on how long you are there for consider bringing some kitchen basics such as tea / sauces / peeler etc 3. There is a shop, but it's opening hours and selection is fairly limited. 4. Bring cash ! Great time and kids loved the adventure.

I had a lovely time. Great location. Lovely views. Accommodation very clean and host was lovely. Came here with my twin boys aged 13 and they loved it too. Will definitely be back.

Spent a night here with probably the best weather of the year! I could sunbathe! So lucky! Probably my favourite place in NI at the moment! We’ll be back with more family!

A short walk to far side of Church bay, lies the Pods. You'll see them as you arrive on the ferry. The view from them is fanatastic. 2 min walk takes you to the pub. A good base for exploring the island. Inside is spacious, clean and warm. Owner John and his wife are very friendly.
