Free on-site parking is a welcome rarity so close to a town centre, and it's one of the first things worth knowing about Tower Hill House Basingstoke. Set on Winchester Road, this guest accommodation gives travellers an easy, low-fuss base in Hampshire without the hassle of finding somewhere to leave the car.
Rooms are en-suite, with some looking out over the garden, and each comes with drinks provided. Breakfast is included to start the day, and there's a bar on site for an evening drink without having to go far. Practical touches extend to 24 hour reception, luggage storage and a laundry service, useful for anyone passing through on business or breaking up a longer journey. Pets are welcome too, so the trip doesn't need to mean leaving the dog behind.
Beyond the property, guests are within reach of a golf course, pubs and bars, restaurants and other eateries, plus entertainment nearby, making it easy to fill an evening or wind down after a day exploring the Hampshire countryside. It's a straightforward, well-equipped stopover rather than a destination in itself, and does that job well.

Positives - hosts live onsite so easy check in and you can come and go as you please, there's a mirocwave,fridge and kettle in the room and the double bed is quite comfy. The bad - Poor quality of clean, all the obvious dust traps such as corner of ceilings behind bedside tables, curtain rails etc all haven't been cleaned some are in clear view so it is obvious that these are being ignored and this extends to the communal areas as well. The walls and floors are stained in places (their is a red stain on the wall in the roomI stayed in). The bedsheets had stains on including what looked like blood Car parking can be tight as their is only enough space for 4 cars and this is a hotel you have to drive to given its location. Lastly bad mobile signal and I certainly won't be returning.

Good place for an overnight stop along the St James Way. It is isolated but the Sun Inn is 5 mins walk down the road in one direction (great food!) and a kebab van 5 mins in the other direction (also very good). Good selection of channels on the TV. There were basic breakfast items in the room which was a great help in the morning and owners were easily contactable by phone during the stay.

Couldn't find the place, due mainly to poor signage and postcode mixup. Tried to call TWICE on available mobile nos, without success. One number on their webpage is not recognised whilst the other went unanswered. Owners were barely receptive and looked disinterested but did show us our room (2). Rooms were cold until evening when heating was put on. The bathroom (on-suite) was totally freezing. Skirting boards could have done with a clean, with rooms being sparse, but furnishings were not modern. If you want breakfast, don't bother as it's uncooked in a box. Very poor value for £65 per night each. We expected more but were sadly disappointed.
