About The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa sits at the midpoint of John Wood the Younger's Royal Crescent, the sweep of Georgian townhouses that has come to stand for Bath itself. The hotel occupies numbers 15 and 16, and from the front it is indistinguishable from its neighbours - there is no sign, only a doorway and a porter. Behind the facade the building opens into a walled garden of about an acre, with a coach house and mews at the rear, which is where much of the accommodation and the spa are found.

There are 45 rooms and suites, and no two are laid out the same way. The rooms in the main house have the tall sash windows and high ceilings of the original Georgian plan, some with four-poster beds and views across Royal Victoria Park; those in the mews and garden buildings are quieter and more contemporary in feel. Antiques, period furniture and heavy fabrics are used throughout, though bathrooms and technology have been brought up to date.

The Spa & Bath House stands separately in the garden, with a relaxation pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub and treatment rooms, plus a small gym. Montagu's Mews is the hotel restaurant, holding AA rosettes for its modern British cooking, and there is a drawing room for afternoon tea and a bar in the old coach house. The hotel also runs a vintage river launch and a hot-air balloon in season.

This suits couples marking an occasion, guests who want a genuinely quiet base within a few minutes' walk of the Circus, the Assembly Rooms and the Roman Baths, and anyone who would rather stay inside a piece of the World Heritage Site than near it. Prices are high and parking is limited, so it repays booking well ahead.

We had a wonderful day at the Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa. From arrival, all staff were warm, friendly, and helpful. The reception team at the spa were the kindest people and let us keep our luggage there all day. They were so helpful in all the questions we had! The spa was spotless and relaxing, and a special thanks to Sylvia and Alistair for an amazing couples massage—truly 10/10. We enjoyed both afternoon tea and dinner, which were excellent. As we were celebrating my birthday, it was a lovely touch that so many staff wished me a happy birthday, making the stay feel extra special. Thank you to the whole team—we can’t wait to return!

This visit was for a Half Day Spa with Afternoon Tea as a special birthday treat. The spa was great- friendly staff and nice clean facilities, the treatment was amazing. Unfortunately the restaurant booking had a mix up and special dietary requirements had not been acknowledged or prepared for the Afternoon Tea option. This resulted in us having to change to the light lunch menu option. Although the staff were very apologetic and have offered a return booking to compensate for the mix up, the special day was spoiled and I did come away more stressed than when I arrived. Not to the high level and quality of service that I had expected from a royal hotel & spa; rather disappointing.

Faultless service from start to finish. From just after the booking process and even before we arrived, every staff member we spoke to went above and beyond to help. We felt genuinely welcomed and very well looked after. The little touches and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The room was beautiful and the views were exceptional. The gardens were beautiful and clearly maintained with great care and attention. The food was amazing, especially breakfast, and the service was always 10/10. We’ve been to Bath many times and have had an amazing time on each visit, and just when we thought it couldn’t be topped, the Royal Crescent truly impressed us. Thank you for making it an experience to remember.
