What visitors say

Md Abdullah Al Adnan

Standing as Lewisham’s largest green space, Beckenham Place Park is a breathtaking 237-acre estate that has undergone a stunning transformation in recent years. Once a private golf course, it has been reclaimed by nature and the community, offering a perfect mix of ancient woodland, sweeping meadows, and grand Georgian architecture. At its heart lies the Grade II listed Beckenham Place Mansion, a stately manor that now serves as a vibrant cultural hub for local artists and creators. The park is perhaps most famous for its purpose-built swimming lake, where brave souls can enjoy open-water swimming in a picturesque woodland setting. For those who prefer to stay dry, the park’s northern half is a labyrinth of ancient trees and sensory gardens, while the vast southern meadows are perfect for kites, picnics, and long walks that make you forget you are still in Greater London. With its rugged, natural feel and commitment to biodiversity, it is a place where you can truly "get lost" in the landscape. It is a sanctuary where historical heritage and modern outdoor adventure live side by side. Traveler Tips for your visit: • The Swimming Lake: If you plan on taking a dip, make sure to book your session online in advance, as the lake is extremely popular, especially during the summer months. • Mansion Arts & Food: Visit the Mansion for a coffee or a craft beer; it often hosts vintage markets, art exhibitions, and yoga classes within its historic rooms. • Ancient Woodlands: Explore the "Stumps" area and the ancient woods to the west, which are particularly beautiful in the spring when bluebells carpet the forest floor. • Cycling Trails: The park features designated cycling paths and is a fantastic spot for off-road biking without the heavy traffic of more central parks. Beckenham Place Park is a soulful and expansive green space that celebrates the wild side of London’s landscape. 🌳🏊‍♂️🏛️
