About The Great Barr Hotel

For travellers who want a no-nonsense base near Birmingham rather than a boutique experience, The Great Barr Hotel offers 92 rooms geared towards families, drivers and anyone prioritising value over polish. Rooms are on the generous side with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms, and family rooms and accessible rooms are available, though some are showing their age and could do with updating.

The restaurant serves food in generous portions, with kids' meals and a snack bar for lighter appetites, plus a bar for evening drinks and drinks available in-room. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the hotel has a lift, luggage storage and porter services alongside business facilities and meeting rooms for those combining work with a stay. A garden and outdoor seating add a bit of space to unwind, and the property also functions as a wedding venue with its own bridal suite.

Free on-site parking is a genuine draw for anyone arriving by car, and pets are welcome too. Golf, entertainment, pubs and restaurants are all nearby, making it a practical spot for exploring Great Barr and the wider Birmingham area without paying city-centre prices.

Met up here in one of their function rooms for a family reunion. The so so: Room okay ish. Food okay ish. The good: Bar area well presented. Toilets tidy. Drinks very competitively priced. Lots of parking. And staff were lovely. I'd go again.

Unfortunately, my stay at The Great Barr Hotel was overshadowed by a very uncomfortable experience with a receptionist on my first night. After a booking issue had already been resolved through Booking.com, I was spoken to in a condescending and dismissive manner upon arrival, despite having been polite throughout. The interaction left me feeling so uncomfortable that I chose to check out early and arrange alternative accommodation. I later contacted the hotel privately to explain what happened and requested a response, but never received one, which was disappointing. That said, the kitchen staff were kind and the food was excellent, and the other staff members I encountered were lovely. It’s a shame that one interaction had such a negative impact on the overall stay.

Room and bathroom were clean and comfortable though a bit dated. Staff are very welcoming and attentive. Lovely setting, huge car park. Great stop-off for us.

Absolutely disgusting place to go too, staff of hierarchy think they are better than others. The way they speak to the younger staff is disgusting, Food is only of good taste when certain staff aren't in and is shown in there appearance and ability to cook (walked away with a upset stomach and will not be trying anything there again). The building itself is not as clean as the photos make it out to be. Receptionists are not welcoming and complaints are brushed under the carpet. Language is vulgar from what is ment to be a place of respect. I will not be coming back to this establishment any time soon. Will pass the word to all my friends and work colleagues NOT to come here very disappointing
