About Garth Hill Farm

Perched above the Wear Valley with sweeping Teesdale views, Garth Hill Farm is a peaceful working farm that welcomes campers to a genuinely rural corner of County Durham. The site keeps things simple – non-electric grass pitches for tents and motorhomes – but the location more than compensates. Pygmy and Toggenburg goats, sheep, ponies and hens potter about, delighting families, while a café sits next door and another café plus a pub are within five minutes on foot. Dogs are welcome year-round (on leads, naturally, given the livestock).

Hamsterley Forest, County Durham's largest woodland, lies just ten minutes away, offering mountain biking trails and a Gruffalo-inspired route for little ones. Durham city – home to its magnificent cathedral and castle – is half an hour's drive. Access is straightforward, just 100 metres from the A68 with links to the A1, and a shopping centre with a large supermarket is ten minutes away for stocking up. Whether you're after scenic walks, forest rides or simply want to unwind with valley views stretching for miles, Garth Hill Farm delivers a genuine rural escape.

We booked this campsite on the day. It was so last minute. We rang Karen (Owner of the site) and she was very friendly and welcoming. It must have been about 3pm when i rang and she got us straight on. What a beautiful place to go to and relax! Surrounded by the farm animals and beautiful country views! We camped for 2 nights. Me & my partner and our little cocker spaniel puppy. There is a Pub we visited not far from the site (10 Minutes by Car, maybe 1 hours walk) in Hamsterley called The Cross Keys inn, dog friendly also and what a lovely country pub it is and with lovely Sundays Dinners! (There is another pub just across the road from the site, but we didnt visit) Just across the road is the A68 Cafe, its definitely worth a visit for breakfast was beautiful. Overall this campsite is absolutely perfect. We will definitely be visiting again!! Thanks so much Karen 😁

Brilliant place Karen the owner is lovely and helpful telling you local places to eat and visit. Field is kept clean and tidy as are the porter toilets. The views are amazing views all round. The farm animals are cute kids loved going to say hi to the horses and sheep. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

We stay a Garth Hill Farm, Karen was wonderful from the very start and it only continued through out our visit. The view from the farm are stunning. We picked Garth Hill due to it close proximity to Kynren theme park. which is well worth a visit. The whole family have an amazing time. Thank you
