The Barn is thoroughly equipped for a self-catering stay. Three bedrooms, each with an en-suite, mean no morning queues; the first two have zip-and-link beds that convert to singles if needed, and the third is a few steps up from the main floor. Electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are all included, along with logs for the wood burner. The kitchen contains a full electric range, dishwasher, wine cooler and all the basics for cooking proper meals. Your own courtyard has a terrace with garden furniture; there's a covered balcony too, and a bike store on site. Parking for three cars comes as standard.
Situated on a working farm in Crook, between Durham and Bishop Auckland, The Barn sits far enough back to feel secluded but is actually close to genuinely worthwhile attractions. Raby Castle, Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum are each within half an hour's drive. Durham itself, a UNESCO World Heritage city centred on its cathedral, is easily reached. The property is non-smoking, though one dog travels free. Families, groups of friends wanting separate sleeping quarters, and anyone after real countryside peace will find it suits them well.
