Lake Retreat

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole

View on Google Maps

Bournemouth's seafront and working harbour lie within easy reach of Lake Retreat, a two-bedroom coach house on the ground floor of a converted building in the town centre. The open-plan living space combines a sitting area with dining and kitchen zones, so there's room to spread out. A sofa bed in the living room provides a fifth sleeping space if needed.

The main bedroom has a king bed and ensuite shower room. The second bedroom contains a double and a single bed. A separate bathroom with bath and shower, plus two additional toilets, means the five of you won't be queuing. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking—oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher—and you can help yourself to wifi throughout. Bed linen, towels and heating are included. Two parking spaces are available on site.

Beach days are the obvious draw, but Poole Harbour itself—one of the world's largest natural harbours—is close by, and the Jurassic Coast is accessible for exploration. Ham Common Nature Reserve offers quieter walks when you want them. The town centre location puts restaurants, shops and cafes within walking distance. No smoking inside the property.

I recently visited the Retreat due to overwhelming anxiety, as I had a lot of awful things happen together. I was given a warm welcome and offered a hot drink and a comfortable room. I was not waiting long at all. The young lady that helped me was very calm, attentive and professional and I left feeling there were better times ahead. It’s very true what people say that a problem shared is a problem halved.. Thank You and very much appreciated.

All i can say is if i could have awarded no star i would have. This resource could be amazing, sadly the two hour rule is so ridiculous as you rarely get to see someone before being made to leave and i mean your almost matched off premises the moment your 2 hours are up. i believe if you were on toilet they would come in and tell you as i was finally with the only support member of staff who had any real mental health training and i was made to leave it before it was finished due to the two hours. i understand why they would need it if they were busy but when i left there were 2 people left and they were made to leave. the receptionist needs training on how to deal with people in crisis as she is rude and triggers uou then when younsaybsomething she crys. This resource could be amaxing but it’s manage so bad i left feeling more suicidal than ever ajd would not even allow them to treat my cat I’d advise stick with connections rhey are better trained and you don’t just waste the whole time waiting. the only benefit really the retreat has now is the free refreshments and i thought until i attended it was a safe place for people mentally unwell to spend time. I arrived in crisis i went home suicidal and would never use this resource again over my dead body springs to mind. Stay well people and use connections if nothing else they will sign oostbyou places where you will be exposed to properly trained staff who know how to deal with someone mentally ill in crisis

The first time I visited, I left feeling a sense of hope. When I was asked if I would come back the next day, I honestly wasn’t sure—I still felt very anxious—but I pushed myself to return anyway. I really wish I hadn’t. I left feeling worse than when I arrived. While I was there, I overheard a conversation in the café area between a member of staff and someone else. They were sharing personal opinions about something I find deeply upsetting and triggering, and it felt like there was no awareness or consideration for how that might affect others around them. I still tried to give it another chance because I was feeling so low and wanted it to help. But again, I left feeling even worse than when I walked in. I spent the entire journey home in tears. Maybe this just isn’t the right place for me.

Really great service. So easy to drop in, made us feel welcome and comfortable, offering us to help ourselves to tea or coffee. They actively listened, after us waiting no time at all, and offered a pathway that no other professionals have yet. Finally an exit off of the round about we've been stuck on, a lifeboat from a sinking ship. They've given some hope when we didn't know which way to turn and we are very grateful. Thank you.
