About Priory Steps

Priory Steps is a small, owner-run B&B formed from a terrace of six seventeenth-century weavers' cottages, converted in the 1980s and set on a steep street in the heart of Bradford-on-Avon. The position gives several rooms panoramic views across the town's mellow stone rooftops toward the countryside beyond, a genuinely rare outlook for a property this central.

Hosts Carey and Diana Chapman have run the property as a Wolsey Lodge since the late 1980s, offering a personal welcome and home-cooked breakfasts, with Diana's cooking a particular draw for returning guests. Additional self-contained accommodation is available across the road in converted units that once formed part of an old coaching inn, giving guests the choice between a traditional B&B room and a more independent stay.

The central location means the Saxon church, the Shambles and the town's markets are all within a short and largely level walk, while Bath, Longleat and Stonehenge are all practical day trips from this base.

This was a lovely place to stay in a characterful building overlooking the town of Bradford on Avon with views to the Pewsey Vale and the famous white horse from our room. Delicious breakfast, friendly hostess and the garden was absolutely sublime. I just wish we could have stayed longer than one night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights stay at this B&B. The property is remarkably spacious and beautifully maintained, with a stunning garden that we were fortunate to overlook from our room. Breakfast was excellent, and Diana proved to be an attentive and gracious host who made us feel truly welcome. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Bradford on Avon, as its central location provides convenient access to the shops and high street.

We had a splendid stay here. The hosts were really friendly and very relaxed. Their experience in running this place for many years shows through. They know how to welcome visitors and they put on a good breakfast. It was wonderful to learn about the previous occupant, Mary Petre Bruce, a true champion of speed in cars, speedboats and planes from the early 20th Century. The house is high above the town with a wonderful view across the valley. And, like most buildings here, the history is engaging and feels alive! We hope to return soon!
