About The Coach House Brecon

The Coach House is a contemporary townhouse bed and breakfast on Orchard Street in Llanfaes, a few minutes' walk across the bridge from the centre of Brecon. It holds a five-star gold award from Visit Wales, a grading only a small fraction of properties in the country reach, and it is run personally by owners Kayt and Hugh, who look after breakfast, local advice and route planning in roughly equal measure.

There are six bedrooms, all en suite and all decorated individually in a clean, modern style with good linen, powerful showers, digital radios, Wi-Fi and well-stocked hospitality trays. Sizes range from compact singles suited to solo walkers up to larger doubles with baths. The house does not take children under 16, which keeps it quiet, and it is comfortable for guests travelling alone. Secure bike storage and drying facilities are available, which matters on this side of the National Park.

Breakfast is the strong point. It is cooked to order using Welsh bacon and sausage, local free-range eggs, home-baked bread and preserves, with proper vegetarian and vegan alternatives rather than afterthoughts. Packed lunches can be arranged for walkers, and the owners will book taxis to and from trailheads, which makes linear routes on the Beacons Way straightforward without a second car.

The location works well for anyone wanting to walk into town for dinner rather than drive: Brecon's restaurants, pubs, the cathedral and the canal basin are all within ten minutes on foot, and the theatre and Sunday market are close by. Off-street parking is limited, so confirm a space when you book. It suits couples, walkers and cyclists who want a well-run small property rather than hotel facilities.

We stayed for two nights at The Coach House while attending the Hay Book Festival, and were delighted with our choice. We had Mini Suite Room number 2 "Brychan". The bed was really comfortable, the breakfast menu was amazing and varied, and the location was perfect. We were there during a heatwave, and they provided two strong fans. The breakfast room also had a selection of books to browse, including Dylan Thomas's poetry, and guidebooks to Wales. Truly a great place to stay, and Brecon is a delightful town on its own.

We had the most wonderful stay here for a hiking weekend! The hotel is so cosy and comfortable. Kayt and Huw were so lovely and welcoming. The food is absolutely delicious, and we loved the opportunity to try traditional Welsh dishes for breakfast. Everything was so well thought out and all the little touches such as a water filter jug, little cafetières, and snacks in the room was wonderful. We will definitely return next time we come hiking in Brecon! Thank you!

We had a fantastic stay at The Coach House. Kayt and Hugh were incredibly welcoming and informative from the moment we arrived, making us feel completely at home. The rooms were pristine clean and beautifully presented, with a really tasteful, calming aesthetic that made the stay even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely fantastic, clearly prepared with care and quality ingredients. The location is stunning too, perfectly situated around 30 minutes from breathtaking waterfalls and mountain hikes. We would highly recommend staying here and would happily return.
