What guests say
A really great place to stay! Incredibly friendly staff team, great continental breakfast, an honesty bar available in the evenings. The rooms are comfortable, the showers great. Children’s play area in the garden and an excellent fish and chip shop next door. This quiet and well appointed hotel has to be one of the best near Brecon. Perfectly located for the best sight seeing in the area, for visits to The Hay Festival and a chance to visit all that this area has to offer. Red kites visit the garden in the morning! Unlimited coffee and tea during your stay and they have a great family room too. But please don’t all book at once! I want to be able to get a room here too!

Really nice stay. Was a last minute booking so wasn’t expecting too much but couldn’t have asked for more! Easy check in and breakfast waiting for us in the morning, just a shame we were in a rush and couldn’t stay for it. Would recommend!

I'm struggling to leave a review, because I find it hard to speak badly of anything, but feel I must. I'm 52 and for the first time ever, I abandoned a booking and went elsewhere. My partner and I arrived around 10pm on a dark and rainy night. There were no lights, other than through a single window on the very top floor. The front door was open, and the alarm in the entrance hall was beeping with a towel draped over it. Once inside, I felt like we'd maybe broken in to a derelict building. There was a small lamp on somewhere, but I was using the torch on my phone to see where I was. There was a small table with room keys and a mobile number to ring. The number was promptly answered by a lady who said we were in room 3 and to help ourselves to continental breakfast in the morning (implying no staff at all). I was told to go up the stairs, but couldn't see them. They were hidden by a shabby ply door which I'd missed in the dark. Once through the door a light automatically came on, and we went up the steep and grubby stairs. The room was a nice size and would have once been very nicely done, but now it was in need of painting, the curtains were stained, the ceiling had clearly leaked, the wifi detail wasn't remotely up to date. The ensuite bathroom would have once been smart, but now there was a completely smashed floor tile under the bath mat, a bath which flexed as I walked in it for a shower, water disappearing between the bath and the wall, and a blind with a rusty mechanism. The bath gurgled LOUDLY whenever anyone in the building used their facilities, waking me up a few times in the night. The shower was good pressure and flow, to be fair. The window frames in both rooms were contaminated with mildew, which would simply wipe away with a piece of toilet role, so a total minimum of effort was being put into hygiene. There was a small wardrobe, the top cupboard to which was full of mildew, as was a skylight window above the stairs on the way up. After a long journey, I slept well enough, staying only because it was too late and I was too tired. But we were starting to cough by morning, both being asthmatic, and left first thing, having just stayed 1 night of 3. I think this was a nice hotel once, but it's lost its way.
