About The Tanners Arms

Walk into a room at The Tanners Arms and you'll find straightforward comforts rather than frills: an en-suite bathroom, a proper bed, and the kind of no-nonsense set-up that suits a stopover in the Brecon countryside. Family rooms are available, and drinks can be brought straight to your room, which makes settling in after a day out easy enough.

The building itself is a 19th-century inn, and it still runs along those lines downstairs, with a bar serving real ales and a restaurant doing traditional food. Breakfast is included and packed lunches can be arranged, which is handy if you're heading out to walk or cycle. There's a garden for sitting out, free WiFi throughout, an electric vehicle charge point, and free on-site parking, plus 24-hour reception for whatever time you arrive.

Defynnog sits within easy reach of Brecon itself, with the cathedral and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal both nearby, and the surrounding area is well suited to walking and cycling. A golf course, pubs, and other restaurants are close by too, so there's no shortage of ways to fill the time beyond the inn's own bar and dining room.

Stopped by this pub on a Sunday. Seemingly a fox hunt enthusiast pub, with a longer wait for vegetarian roast dinner than meat options. Reception was super frosty, we thought maybe the staff member was having a bad day but she seemed very welcoming to others that came into the pub (including seating others in a space that she told us wasn’t dog friendly, despite other guests having dogs). Some of our group was visibly queer perhaps the reception could be to do with that, perhaps it was something else. Overall we felt uncomfortable and left rather quickly.

Refurbished rooms are comfortable and clean. Still some work to be done in one room, but that is ongoing. Food was very good value and ample portions.

What a gem of a place run by such a lovely mother and daughter! Managed to fit 10 people and 2 dogs in for Sunday dinner. Wow what a dinner - one of the best roast dinners and puddings we have all had in such a long time! So well priced. The ladies are so helpful and informative of the local area. So pleased we came across this beautiful pub which was dog and child friendly. We will be back!
