About The Old Vicarage Hotel

The Old Vicarage Hotel occupies a former vicarage on St Mary Street in Bridgwater, a building with plenty of period character now run as a 20-room hotel. The house retains a homely, well-decorated feel throughout, with a garden and outdoor seating adding to the sense of a proper country retreat rather than a chain hotel.

Rooms are en-suite, comfortable and described as spacious and clean, with drinks available in room and packed lunches on request for days out. The restaurant and bar are a particular strength, with home-cooked food and generous breakfasts, and staff are consistently noted as friendly and accommodating. The hotel also has a bridal suite and meeting rooms, making it suitable for weddings and small events, and pets are welcome for those travelling with dogs.

Bridgwater itself sits within reach of the Quantock Hills, and the surrounding area offers walking and cycling routes, golf, fishing and watersports, along with nearby restaurants and entertainment. It's a practical base for exploring Somerset, with the hotel's own facilities meaning there's little need to venture out in the evening unless you want to.

We went to The Old Vicarage for dinner and had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. Every member of staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a lovely atmosphere from the moment we arrived. The outdoor space is also fantastic. On the evening we visited, they were hosting a pizza, popcorn and movie night, which looked like great fun and such a lovely idea for families. We would definitely recommend it and look forward to visiting again!

Highly recommend this hotel on all counts. I’ve been in and out of this hotel for just over 5 months due to work in Bridgwater and have been met with nothing but bright smiles and happy people. I work night shifts which can make hotels a little difficult for me, but all the staff have been super accommodating for me throughout these months. They’ve very kindly upgraded rooms for me, since the room i was placed in was a little small which was such a kind gesture! They’ve offered to make food that I can take back to my room & eat before sleeping at 7-9AM. They’ve communicated with their staff to not disturb me for housekeeping and so much more. Most of them know me by name which is so thoughtful to think about and remember old conversations we’ve had which is really nice. The rooms are beautiful, beds are super comfy (and laid out very professionally) with a lovely tea & coffee tray with a packet of biscuits set up. Their breakfasts are amazing, and I’m very jealous of the people that can enjoy them at 7 in the morning. Their evening foods are delicious having tried the lasagne before & would gladly have again. The water pressure in the showers are amazing and hold temperatures unlike other hotels that flicker between hot and cold. Location wise it’s very nice since you are very close to town but not close enough to be disturbed during the night time. Overall 5 stars on everything. I’d like to thank all the staff once again for catering & having me at this hotel despite my somewhat difficult and chaotic lifestyle, sadly I will be placed back into exeter for work rather than Bridgwater so I may not see the hotel again, however your generosity has not gone un-noticed with me and I wish you all the best for the future and for the business. :) - Josh

We loved our stay here! It is such a lovely restaurant and hotel, beautifully decorated, you can tell they've put a lot of thought and care into the place! The staff were so friendly, informative and attentive. And the food at both dinner time and breakfast was amazing, so delicious. We will 100% come back to stay again!

This is a very old building in the centre of Bridgwater. It has been sympathetically renovated and the bedroom we stayed in was comfortable with a nice ensuite. We arrived quite late but forewarned the hotel so it was ok. We were only there one night, all the staff we met were lovely and very attentive, and breakfast was delicious. We had a drink in the bar when we arrived as it was too late for dinner, its a small bar with a good selection of local beer and ale. Will go back if we are staying in the area again.
