Family-run activity campsite with archery and mini golf, 5 miles from Bury St Edmunds

About Church View Campsite at Suffolk Academy

Church View Campsite occupies four acres in the grounds of Suffolk Academy, a sports complex in the village of Barrow, five miles west of Bury St Edmunds just off the A14. The family-run site offers a mix of grass and hardstanding pitches—some serviced, some electric-only, plus a handful without hook-up—alongside a growing stock of glamping pods for anyone wanting a roof overhead. What makes it stand out is the activity programme next door: guests can book archery, axe throwing, an obstacle course, gym access and an escape room, all without leaving the site, plus there's mini golf, a play area and a campfire zone for quieter evenings.

An on-site café and bar take care of meals without needing to drive, and the main amenities block covers showers, toilets and motorhome services. Pets are welcome, fires are allowed, though there's no WiFi—this is a place that favours doing over scrolling. It suits families and groups who want something beyond the pitch rather than total seclusion, though the surrounding countryside and Barrow's two village pubs offer a calmer gear when needed. Bury St Edmunds is fifteen minutes away, making day trips to Ickworth or West Stow straightforward.

What visitors say

This is our second visit, lovely campsite, plenty for the kids to do, including mini golf & foot golf, plus there are chickens running around and guinea pigs & rabbits to visit. Bar & restaurant on site open certain days & times, the pizzas are very good! Walking distance to 2 pubs. The site is in a good location, just 15 minute drive to Bury. The hosts are very friendly & helpful. The only criticism is, the bins were constantly overflowing, it was bank holiday weekend & half term but definitely more bins required. Will definitely be coming back!

Amazing campsite – it had everything we needed for a perfect family stay. The hosts were incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout. The nearby village was lovely, with great local amenities, and the surrounding walks were beautiful. We stayed with our children and there was plenty to keep them entertained, making it a fantastic experience for the whole family. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a lovely stay at the campsite. It’s in a great location with a nice pub within walking distance, and the site itself was clean, well-maintained, and very peaceful. The only downside was that one large family group didn’t seem to follow basic camping etiquette. Their children were playing football and running through occupied pitches, and at times it felt like we were sharing our pitch with them, which wasn’t what we’d expected from a campsite. Unfortunately, the ball games and noise continued into the evening, making it difficult to relax. This wasn’t a reflection on the campsite itself, but I do think it would be beneficial if the site reminded guests about camping etiquette on arrival—for example, respecting other campers’ pitches, avoiding ball games around occupied pitches, and keeping noise levels down, especially in the evenings. A little guidance would help ensure everyone can enjoy the peaceful camping experience they’re looking for. Overall, we’d happily return and hope this was just an isolated experience.

Church view campsite is very well equipped for children. Unfortunately the young children have a habit of kicking footballs about..which hit your car and caravan...very annoying.. the pitch sizes are good.. but you need a motor mover for some as its very tight to park a caravan with your vehicle...without driving on neighbouring pitches....we did speak with the father of the children and he told them to stop .. but 7.30 am sunday morning there back out ... not such a big deal...but didn't want my property damaged...we didn't make a big deal of it as we were leaving that morning...it just made us leave a bit earlier...great friendly site.. grand daughter loved poppy the cat.....will return again...
