About Aylesbray Lodge

Seven rooms are all you'll find at Aylesbray Lodge, a family-run guesthouse on Mowbray Road in Cambridge that keeps things modest and personal rather than trying to be a large hotel. The rooms themselves have a quaint, homely character, the kind of place where the scale works in its favour.

Guests staying here get complimentary WiFi throughout and, perhaps more usefully in a city like Cambridge, free on-site parking, which is not always easy to come by so close to the centre. It's a straightforward, no-frills setup suited to those who want a comfortable base rather than extensive facilities.

The location puts Shelford within reach for those wanting to explore beyond the city, while Haverhill Golf Club offers a nearby option for anyone keen on a round during their stay. Aylesbray Lodge suits travellers after simple, affordable accommodation in Cambridgeshire with parking sorted from the moment they arrive.

Easy place to stay over, not so quiet, because of the road nearby. Really good beds.

This was a horrible booking experience with utterly, terrible service. I needed accommodation in close proximity to Addenbrooke's Hospital where I was being treated in the oncology department. I found this place nearby and phoned the owner/manager. I explained that I needed clean accommodation due to my condition. She reassured me everything would be fine. I booked and paid over the phone for four nights. Shortly afterwards I received an email from the accommodation with several unexpected and unacceptable terms. I replied to the email right away stating that I disagreed with the 'contract' they had sent me and that I wished to cancel but they sent me an email stating that I would be liable for the full cost of the stay (over £300) despite no service having been provided. At the same time I looked at some online reviews of the property and was shocked. More than half of the Tripadvisor reviews give the accommodation a '1-Star' and mention dirty furniture, insanitary showers, bad wifi, and problems with the management. Tripadvisor reviews mention dirty bed linen and bloodstained sheets. These potential bio-hazards could be positively dangerous to me with my condition. I noticed that one reviewer mentioned he had money taken from his account without permission after he cancelled his booking so I immediately emailed the property stating that they must not take funds from my account and I specifically asked the manager to confirm that no funds would be taken. The manager failed to respond to that specific request for a week despite several reminders. As a result, I was forced to freeze my debit card for a week which caused massive problems at a time when I had a lot of expenditure during my hospital treatment. After a week I threatened the manager with reporting the matter to the authorities. It was only at that point that the manager replied to my request confirming that no funds would be taken. All in all, this was the worst booking problem that I have ever experienced. I would advise caution to anyone dealing with this property and its manager.

Alright Giza!!

Really pleasant little place within 45 minutes of centre and 35 to station. Extremely pleasant host with lots of information. Lodge was very clean though a little worn. Shower was poor pressure and temperamental temperature. Great value.

I understood it would be a single room, I booked it, but found it more like a cupboard, absolutely tiny. No heating in room, dark, old, scratched, scuffed furniture, wouldn't put my clothes on them, other people's body washing products left in the tiniest en suite shower room I have ever seen. Dark, dank, tiny. Complained on booking.com. Rooms way to close to each other, dark doors, old dirty keys to enter room, barely a couple of inches between walls. The owner lied to booking.com and said I was a 'no show' and lied again and said 'I didn't enter the room', both of which I did. I filled in a registration form and got my key, I even left the room and went to buy a bottle of wine after a long day travelling and came back to the room entering via 'my key' I had been given. Arrived at 6pm and I had gone by 7.45pm via taxi to Rectory Farm Cambridge. I did even call Anna to say I had left the property and where I'd gone. I can't believe it is rated 3 stars. Should be a 1 star. No one likes a liar.
