About Cambridge City Rooms by Payman Club

A communal kitchen is one of the more useful features at Cambridge City Rooms by Payman Club, giving guests the option to prepare their own food rather than rely solely on what's nearby, though pubs, restaurants and eateries are all within easy reach on and around Mill Road for those who'd rather eat out.

The guesthouse itself is a modest, no-frills setup in central Cambridge, with individually decorated rooms that lean towards cosy rather than spacious. Each comes with an en-suite bathroom, drinks in the room, and free WiFi, and there's a garden for guests wanting a bit of outdoor space. Reception operates around the clock, which helps for those arriving outside normal hours.

The location on Mill Road puts King's College and the River Cam within easy access, alongside a golf course and various entertainment options nearby. It's a straightforward, budget-conscious base for exploring the city rather than a destination in itself, and suits travellers happy to trade polish for practicality.

Room was great, very clean and nicely decorated. Check in was easy and convenient. Location on high street was a bit loud, and the front room feels a bit exposed, but overall a really nice stay, especially considering the price compared to elsewhere in the city.

Very clean common areas, very mildewy rooms with wacky furniture. My chair was wobbly, the desk had its legs built backwards, and the bed frame snapped after a few days. Not quite luxurious accommodations.

This is the worst accommodation I have ever seen in my life. There are spider webs everywhere. There is neither hot water nor a proper heating system. The furniture in the rooms is very old. There is absolutely no cleaning. The person in charge of the accommodation makes loud and disturbing noises at any time without considering others. He paints the rooms, takes measurements, and doesn’t even check if someone is sleeping inside. There is no cleaning at all. The kitchen equipment is insufficient. I absolutely do not recommend this place. It’s nothing but a complete disgrace.

Since I found it suitable in terms of location and price, I completed my reservation process by making the payment through Hotels.com about a week before my stay. The next day I received an e-mail from the host company saying I needed to pay a £100 deposit within 24 hours, otherwise they reserve the right to cancel my booking. I’ve tried but the payment system on their website didn’t work and there was a message that authorization would be made 24 hours before the visit. I wrote to the host and they said there’ll be no cancellation because I’ve paid for the room. But the last day I had the same problem, they held me on the line to solve the system problem but couldn’t manage for 3 hours, they still insisted on the deposit otherwise they wouldn’t send the check-in info. I was late for a lot of things and if I didn’t have a friend in the UK who did a bank transfer I would be looking for a new place on the last day with high prices. If this is your system's fault you shouldn’t insist on a deposit. The location is fine, room no.8 was not bad for 1 person to stay. The blinds were ruined but I fixed them. Bed springs were a bit squeaky. I didn’t receive any check-out information but I did everything reversed and sent a message to the host via Hotels. I didn’t receive any feedback on this. When they received the deposit, they said they’d refund in 2 days after my visit ended but they haven’t. Me and my friend wrote to them, and they managed the refund on the 5th day of checkout. I was lucky that I have an awesome friend there, otherwise, this journey would be a nightmare. They are still kind in their messages; however, problem-solving and customer satisfaction are awful.
