Canterbury

The Clerks Cottage sits on the ground and first floors of a building that has stood since the 1600s, part of Eastbridge Hospital's ancient complex in the heart of Canterbury. You arrive into a living and dining room that opens directly onto the kitchen—a practical space with electric cooking, a dishwasher, and everything needed to prepare meals. The bedroom upstairs is a simple room with a king-size bed; a separate shower room completes the layout. Original features like exposed beams run through the cottage, alongside modern essentials: heating, Wi-Fi, and parking for one car on site.
Eastbridge Hospital itself dates to 1190, when it provided shelter for pilgrims travelling to Thomas Becket's shrine. That history remains tangible in the walls around you, though the cottage itself is from four centuries later. The setting places you within walking distance of Canterbury Cathedral, the city's museums, and the River Stour. The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge is nearby for quieter afternoons. Bed linen, towels, and Wi-Fi are included; smoking is not permitted. This is a two-person property, unsuitable for children.

What guests say
I only stopped briefly to take a photo of Eastbridge Hospital from the road near Kings Bridge, but it was still a lovely sight. The historic exterior is full of character and blends beautifully with Canterbury's medieval charm. Its picturesque location by the River Stour makes it a great spot for photos while exploring the city. Even without going inside, it's a landmark that's well worth seeing.
