You can pick your own pitch when you arrive at Gwynon Camping – but frankly they're all pretty much as good as each other at this tiny Carmarthenshire site in a quiet spot overlooking the Towy Valley. Guest numbers are kept deliberately low to ensure there's plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax within the allocated grass field.
Facilities are simple but well thought out: mains water, a compost toilet (cleaned daily and sweetened with lavender petals), and a hot shower in a little hut with hooks for your clothes. The farming surroundings mean dogs need to stay on leads, though you can pick up free-range eggs from the nearby farmyard for breakfast. Campers rave about the stunning views – especially at sunset – and the peaceful atmosphere, though note there's no hot water beyond the shower.
Despite the remote feel, you're well connected: the National Botanic Garden of Wales and British Bird of Prey Centre are both within 10 minutes' drive, while a walk to Paxton's Tower, a 200-year-old National Trust folly, makes for a fine afternoon out. Campfires and barbecues are both permitted, so stop for supplies in Carmarthen or Llandeilo (both within 20 minutes), or try Llanarthney's lovely pub and deli just five minutes away.

Great place. I only live down road but fancied a night camping, will certainly be returning. No phone signal at all which I thought a bad thing at first but then found it’s nice to unplug from the modern world for a bit and will likely return now and again when I want a little break from the world.

Fantastic location and an amazing view from any part of the site. Really spacious, clean and dog friendly. Only a few mins walk to the beach and it's right on the coastal path. Handy little shop and Caban Mwnt cafe just above the beach. Dolphins and seals a plenty and also recommend the beach yoga class on a Saturday morning.

Ty Gwyn is a lovely spot - right on the coast and a short walk from Mwnt beach. Its beautifully located. However, one toilet in each of the male toilet blocks - just one - that's inadequate. One shower too, and one sink. The toilets adjacent to the camping area smell before you get there. That's not good either. The chemical waste spot is not a chemical waste spot - its a large plastic tank full of human waste - no flushing facilities and it was full when I arrived to empty the waste tank. It was awful and another camper shared his concerns about that to me later that day. I've been to many camp sites but the waste situation will stay with me for a while. I told the staff and they said it was being emptied 'today.' But it should have been dealt with much, much earlier and as I have said, it needs proper plumbing as its a hygiene hazard. On a more positive note (I hate to write critically, I really do) one of the staff did put loo paper into the loo immediately once I told him there wasn't any in there (but I should not have had to tell him, as it should be regularly checked). But there you go, great spot, potentially an excellent site, but more loos and sinks and showers are needed, and a proper plumbing system for the waste is essential. I would think however that the owners know this already: at least I hope they do. They were lovely by the way, really warm and friendly.

My partner and I came to stay here for the bank Holiday weekend. What can I say. This place is paradise. Clifftop views of Cardigan Bay, access to what I would say is one of the best beaches in Wales that has regular visits from dolphins. The facilities are basic but clean. Shower was hot but quite weak. Easy access to coastal path and the climb up Mwnt and the little church at the foot of it. Site had a burger van which was popular. The staff were super friendly. Access is remote. Narrow lanes with passing spaces. This place is so beautiful, it made me rethink my life and I want to move down here. The town of Cardigan is a 15 minute drive away. Lovely cafes, town pubs. Lots of independent shops. Not a Starbucks or Costa Pret o Coffee in sight. Everyone speaks Welsh here it is so nove to hear. In my humble opinion. This site is Wales best kept secret.
