About Lochside Caravan Park

Lochside Caravan Park sits on the edge of Castle Douglas, its peaceful setting beside Carlingwark Loch putting you straight into the heart of Dumfries and Galloway's countryside. The loch itself is a draw: you can fish from the shore, launch a kayak, or simply watch the birdlife – it's a known spot for wildfowl and waders. The site welcomes tents and tourers across grass and hardstanding pitches, with good wheelchair access throughout and level ground that makes pitching easy.

Castle Douglas, a short walk or cycle away, covers your essentials – shops, pubs, and cafés – while the Galloway Forest Park and the coast at Kirkcudbright are both within easy reach. Some visitors note the facilities can feel a little tired in places, but the location and value (pitches from around £25) keep people coming back, especially those touring by bike or on foot. It's a straightforward, welcoming base that gets the basics right.

I walk in this park regularly because it's so scenic. The caravan park is well maintained and seems very organised. Not too big either and within walking distance of the shops of Castle Douglas

The best caravan park in Castle Douglas. Holveg and Anders had a body of laughs with Gillian. Michels and Toorans were doing body building.

We camped at Lochside Holiday Park for two nights in our tent and had such a brilliant stay. The site was peaceful and never felt oversold or crowded, with stunning scenery from every pitch. You’re either looking out over beautiful fields filled with Highland cows or across the breathtaking lake, which also has thoughtful, humane rules around their fishery. It felt like the perfect balance between wild camping and the comfort of being on a site. The staff were attentive and welcoming, and it was absolutely worth the money we paid. The only little challenge we faced was our fear of wasps – but that’s nature for you! We’d definitely recommend and would love to return.

Absolutely brilliant, brilliant campsite to stay at when in the area. Extremely helpful and friendly staff that make sure you are aware of all features available. I was given plenty of time to decide where I was going to pitch my tent and also given a very helpful map of the area as I was new to it. Within easy walking distance of Castle Douglas and all its amenities. 100% I will be staying here again. Permanent and touring hard stands as well as loads of space for hard core campers in tents.
