About The Imperial Hotel
Rooms at The Imperial Hotel come with en-suite bathrooms and the option of family accommodation, along with drinks and room service available for those who'd rather not venture out. It's a straightforward, no-frills setup rather than a boutique experience, and while some rooms could do with a refresh, the basics are all in place.
Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar serving breakfast and meals, with outdoor seating for warmer days and packed lunches available for guests heading out for the day. The hotel operates a 24 hour reception, plus laundry and business services, an electric vehicle charge point and free WiFi throughout. Pets are welcome, and free on-site parking is provided.
The Imperial Hotel sits on King Street in Castle Douglas, within Dumfries and Galloway, close to local pubs, restaurants and transport links. The surrounding area suits walking, fishing and watersports, with entertainment nearby for evenings out. Staff are consistently noted for being friendly and helpful, and breakfast is a particular strong point.

Shared a standard twin room with my dad. Full Scottish breakfast included in the price and located as central as can be. Tesco and Spar nearby as well as a range of local shops on a beautiful high street.

The warmer times of the year might be preferable- given the age of the building- and its original glazing and windows and what-not. Netherless- we were warmly greeted on arrival and an extra room too- was readied with no fuss at all. For all of its quirks- I would prefer to stay in an old hotel like this- rather than the generic souless travel lodges and so on. What an adventure. The bar is well stocked- and very cozy. Nice to relax in and talk. Everthing functioned in my room as it should- and I had a wonderful nights sleep ehead of the next day. We chose to have breakfast early (7am) and it was lovely coming down to the warm lounge and mixture of people from all sorts of backgrounds and ages. All seemed very happy to be here. My Scottish Breakfast- prceeded with cerials and finished with tea- toast and marmalade was 10/10. Definatly will come again.

We made the mistake of booking an overnight stay at this once impressive old hotel. Unfortunately it appears that it hasn't had a penny of investment since the 1970's. The rooms are damp and mouldy with only an electric radiator for warmth. The windows and bathroom floor were rotten and the shower was just a trickle of luke warm water. Light bulbs and drawer handle missing, no sockets for the kettle area, bed castors and headboard broken, the list goes on. One of the worst places I have ever stayed. On a positive note, the Scottish breakfast was lovely and the owners and staff were pleasant.

At the cheap cheaper end of hotel stays this is a dated hotel but that is the only negative and the price for a room reflects this. You will not get a cheaper nicer clean dated hotel, very friendly staff and the breakfast is amazing. My dog also enjoyed her stay visiting the bar for a chat with the barman and various grass areas all within a minute of exiting the hotel to do her business.
