Y Bwthyn Pren

Ceredigion

Aberaeron's Georgian harbour, built in 1807, sits at the mouth of the River Aeron with coloured buildings wrapped around the water's edge. Y Bwthyn Pren stands a short walk away, an unconventional upside-down cottage where the bedroom and bathroom occupy the ground floor, connected by a spiral staircase to the living spaces above. The arrangement means your sitting room opens onto a Juliet balcony overlooking the river as it flows toward the sea and the working harbour beyond.

The ground floor holds a king bed, bathroom with bath and shower, and an external utility room with washing and tumble drying. Upstairs is a single open-plan room combining kitchen, dining and living areas, with a 55-inch smart TV and French doors to the balcony. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking; essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen and wi-fi are included. A courtyard outside offers a sitting area, and there's direct river access if you want to launch a canoe or kayak—bike storage is also on site. One car can park on the property. The cottage takes no children under 12 months, and smoking is not permitted.

Aberaeron itself is busy with independent shops, restaurants and pubs, many serving local seafood and produce. Summer brings festivals—seafood, cider and beer, mackerel and Welsh ponies among them—when the town fills with events and visitors can explore on foot.
