Small canal-side touring park two and a half miles from Chester city centre
About Netherwood Touring Site
Netherwood is a small, privately run touring park tucked behind Netherwood House on the Whitchurch Road, two and a half miles south-east of Chester. With just fifteen electric pitches spread across two acres, it stays refreshingly quiet even in high summer—a world away from the larger commercial sites ringing the city. The field backs directly onto the Shropshire Union Canal, and the towpath offers a flat, traffic-free hour's walk into Chester, delivering you at Tower Wharf beside the city walls. That canal connection is the site's real strength: leave the car parked and reach the cathedral, the Rows and the river entirely on foot.
Facilities are modest but well kept. A converted stable block houses one shower and two WCs per gender, along with dishwashing sinks and waste disposal points. There's a large recreational field for dog-walking and ball games, plus a play area for children and free wifi across the site. No shop on site, but a convenience store, garage and Calor Gas point are all close by, and two food-serving pubs—the Cheshire Cat and the Poplars—are within walking distance. Open mid-March to late October.

Stopped here in July for the first time in several years and must say the site has been vastly transformed due to Sally Nikk and the warden Kevins hard work. I would highly recommend this site for its lovely canal walks and access into Chester. All pitches wether it be hard standing or grass are very spacious. Would highly recommend this site and it would be our go to if we lived a lot closer.

This is arguably one of the best sites we've visited. We have been returning for a few years now, and it seems to get better every time we visit. Located just a few miles from Chester city centre and right alongside the canal, the site is peaceful and relaxing. It is also being continually improved, with some great additions that make it even better than in previous years. Kev, the site manager, is probably one of the best site managers we have come across. He is very helpful, accommodating, and always willing to help ensure guests have an enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend a visit to this site, and we will certainly be returning in the very near future.

Beautiful site. Very well kept. Perfect location. Made to feel very welcome. Walked into Christleton for the bus into Chester. Only a leisurely 10 minute walk. Also went for a ride on our bikes along the canal and surrounding area. It’s so lovely. Lovely pubs within walking distance, Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Stayed at this fabulous campsite for 3 nights and I have to rate it as excellent. The pitches are very large and you have lots of space. The facilities and services are well laid out and everything you need is provided. The owners and warden are very friendly, helpful and always chatting with guests which is lovely. The site is in a lovely location right beside the canal with a short stroll to the nearby pub which is situated right beside the canal. The owners provide a very helpful site plan which provides all the information you need for nearby services and transport links. We used an Uber to visit Chester which is well worth it at £10- £12 I cannot fault this site and will certainly visit again when we are in the area so we'll done to the owners and warden you are all doing a fantastic job and providing a first class service
