About Rowton Hall Hotel & Spa
Rowton Hall stands on Rowton Lane at Rowton Moor, three miles south-east of Chester on the edge of the fields where the Battle of Rowton Heath was fought in 1645. The house is Georgian, built in the 1770s, and sits in eight acres of gardens and grounds that give it a genuine country-house feel despite being only about ten minutes' drive from the Eastgate.
There are forty bedrooms spread across the original hall, later wings, a set of apartments and a separate lodge. The rooms in the old house are the ones with character – sash windows, high ceilings and views over the lawns – while the newer wings are more uniform and better suited to families needing space or to guests who want a lift and level access. Master suites at the top of the range are considerably larger than anything available in the city centre at comparable money.
The spa and health club is the main draw for most guests, with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym and a full treatment list. Thyme at Rowton is the restaurant, serving breakfast through to dinner with afternoon tea and a well-attended Sunday lunch, and it makes a point of using produce from the hotel's own garden. The hall is also a busy wedding and conference venue, so it is worth asking what else is booked if you want a quiet weekend.
It works best for couples wanting a spa break with the city as an optional day out, for families who need parking and room to spread out, and for anyone driving on to North Wales. Dogs are welcome in designated rooms and there are electric vehicle chargers on site. Parking is free and plentiful, and a taxi into Chester takes ten to fifteen minutes.

What guests say
The incredible food, the luxurious spa, I’m so pleased with my birthday getaway! Cosy and spacious room, loved the bath and shower, large tv - spoilt for choice! The staff are very friendly and we had lovely service at dinner and in the spa. The food left us full and speechless (a good thing!) flavourful sauces, large portions, sweet treats and very nice drinks options. The ✨highlight is the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and the extremely relaxing spa treatments. Oil massage for him, salt scrub full body massage for me, the staff were professional and thorough. Left feeling incredibly zen, like I was abroad on holiday - not an hour from home with work on Monday! Thank you 🙏🏻

Pool Jacuzzi steam room and sauna. Everything was nice and clean, beds were lovely. We had afternoon tea which was lovely and the staff were really helpful and friendly. We had a head, neck, shoulder massage and facial, so relaxing. You could also stay as long as you liked in the relaxation room. Some spas we have been too before have been very busy, but Rowton Hall remained fairly quiet in comparison all day. Could maybe benefit from an outside jacuzzi, but that's just my preference. Would definitely go again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Where do we begin? After planning our wedding at Rowton Hall for almost three years, we can honestly say that choosing this venue was one of the best decisions we made. The venue itself is beautiful, but what truly makes Rowton Hall special is the people. Every member of staff went above and beyond to make our wedding unforgettable, with James, Cheryl, Amy, Josh and Valda all playing a huge part in making us and our guests feel so cared for. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and every detail was handled with warmth, professionalism and genuine kindness. Our wedding day was always going to be special, but the team at Rowton Hall made it even more special than we could have imagined. Thank you for giving us memories that will last a lifetime. We cannot wait to return.

Stayed as part of a conference group and came away with mixed feelings. The venue itself is excellent. The grounds are beautiful, parking is easy, the rooms were comfortable and well presented, and the food quality was generally very good. The conference lunch in particular was excellent, and the hotel represented good value overall. The events booking process was also excellent. Cheryl from the events team was responsive, flexible and professional throughout, making the organisation of the event straightforward. What let the experience down was the service and coordination once we arrived. As the organiser of the event, I was surprised by how basic the check-in experience was. I was handed a key and little else. There was no introduction to the hotel, no confirmation of conference arrangements, and no explanation of facilities or timings. Throughout the event I often found myself having to seek out information or assistance rather than being approached proactively. Dinner service was also frustratingly slow. The food itself was good, but drinks and meals took a long time to arrive, and on more than one occasion the bar ran out of lager. There were also a few small issues with agreed catering items and dietary information which could have been avoided with better communication between departments. The other significant issue was temperature. The conference room became very warm during the day and the bedrooms were also uncomfortably hot overnight. With no air conditioning and no fans available, I would think carefully before booking during the warmer summer months. That said, there were some excellent individual staff members, particularly a member of the breakfast team who went out of her way to help early in the morning before service had even started. Overall, Rowton Hall has all the ingredients of an excellent hotel and conference venue. The setting, rooms, food and value are all strong. What holds it back is inconsistent service and a lack of proactive hospitality. I would consider returning in future, particularly outside the hottest months of the year.
