4 Canon Lane is a guest house run by Chichester Cathedral within its own Close, a walled precinct in the heart of the city that is quieter than the surrounding streets despite being a few steps from the shops and restaurants of South Street. The building, a restored former archdeaconry, holds eight en-suite bedrooms and is available for both individual stays and private retreats.
Bed and breakfast is the core offering, with breakfast served on site each morning, and the house can also be hired for meetings, functions and weddings for those wanting the setting for an event rather than an overnight stay. Its position inside the Close gives it a level of calm that is hard to find elsewhere in the city centre.
It suits visitors drawn to the cathedral itself, or to a quieter, more contemplative base than a conventional hotel, while still being close enough to walk to the theatre, galleries and shops within a few minutes.

I love staying here, and have been back many times. Not as many as I'd have liked either (because it's popular!) It's right in the centre of Chichester. You're staying and parking by the side of the Cathedral and near the entrance to Bishop's Palace Gardens. The prices are good value and you're paying the Cathedral, rather like a donation to its upkeep instead of to the profits of a big chain. I book online via their own website and it's always easy. Before the booking you get instructions and a code to get in and out of the main door and your own room. All the rooms are slightly different and I've staying in nearly all of them by now! They're clean, comfortable, nicely decorated. Sometimes you get wonderful views over the garden or towards the Cathedral spire. It's a peaceful spot and very quiet at night. No breakfast is included, but that's good... you have the choice of many local coffee shops and cafés just a stroll away including the Cathedral's own cafe, which I can also recommend.

Positives - Great location and easy access, good communication and instructions, and great view out of our window. Nice touches like the ice packs and cool bags you can borrow for your pic nic. We also appreciated the windows were open and fan was on when we arrived as it was 30 degrees. Negatives - only a couple, we had an iron but no ironing board, even though it was advertised and we needed one. Also we had a bulb missing in the bathroom. All round, a great one night stay for our anniversary mini break.

We booked 4 Canon Lane for a mini moon after our wedding and we 100% made the right decision. It was such a lovely stay, perfect location in the centre of Chichester. The room was very spacious. Would love to go back. 100% recommend to all.

Room is quite spacious, has almost all amenities however, having access to a microwave and a fridge to store juices etc would have been ideal. Housekeeping would make the beds daily but it's evident that linens were not changed for the duration of my stay. Nevertheless, I had no obstructions, no interferences, it was quiet and peaceful.
