About The Rising Sun

Tucked onto the edge of Bodmin Moor, this gastropub-with-pitches delivers proper back-to-basics camping - no electric hook-ups on the field itself, so pack a torch for those evening trips to the pub's facilities. What you lose in convenience you gain in atmosphere: pitch up behind The Rising Sun and you're genuinely off-grid, with sweeping moorland views and direct access to hiking trails, cycling routes and the scramble up Rough Tor.

The real draw here is the food. Diners consistently rave about the roasts, steak and scotch eggs prepared by the award-winning chef, all using top-notch Cornish produce. With camping rates often discounted when you eat at the pub, there's every incentive to bag a table in the cosy dining room rather than wrestle with your camping stove. Staff are notably friendly, facilities stay clean, and dogs are welcome year-round - making this an ideal base for walkers who want moorland on the doorstep and a quality meal waiting at day's end.

Had 2 meals here. Both were amazing Fresh and exciting. Staff were really nice and knowledgeable about drink paring with food. Camping was good. Toilet facilities were good. If you eat in the.pub then camping is taken off the food bill.

We had a brilliant stay at the Rising Sun Inn. The food was amazing and well presented along with excellent service from the waiters. The accommodation was immaculate and modern, all the amenities you could want. Very easy to find by car, however we opted to use public transport as there is a bus stop right outside the door served by service 425 from Launceston.

A cosy old traditional pub with restaurant. Locals enjoy the pub along with travellers alike. Guest rooms available and a camping site behind the car park. The food was fantastic, a two-course menu for £32, three-course menu £36 or an a-la-carte menu available.

This is the type of pub that you need to seek out … a proper unpretentious country inn that greets you with a lovely smile when you walk in and holds a great range of well kept ales (I noticed the cellar is directly under the bar ) and wines. Cosy and authentic with a log burner and walls with interesting art and some roots reggae on the playlist..So the scene is set for the food and what a treat , we went intending a light lunch and was presented with a 3 course menu de jour style option. My appetite grew as I read the options and opted for the crab tagliatelle which was perfectly al dente, deep and creamy, the Thai grilled plaice struck the balance of subtle spice and letting the fresh fish shine through, my wife had the steak bavette, perfectly medium with a punchy peppercorn sauce. After such a great couple of courses we had to round off with treacle tart and a sticky toffee. Chef made and light in flavour with an orange chantilly that sang. This pub is over an hours drive for us , will that bother us for another trip - no. Hallelujah , the great British pub is alive and well in Altarnun
