Romantic and remote family friendly 19th century coastal camping barn, with spectacular views. Secret cove below.

About The Watch House

Perched dramatically above a secret cove near Lansallos, The Watch House is a romantic 19th-century coastal barn turned campsite, offering spectacular sea views and a genuine sense of escape. Families are welcome, as are dogs, and the basics are well covered with showers, toilets and drinking water on tap. Open year-round, it's a no-frills setup—don't expect WiFi—but the remote clifftop setting more than compensates.

The attached restaurant serves delicious, fresh seafood (the fish and chips get particular praise) with attentive, friendly staff, though some find the food a little overpriced and occasionally bland. Still, it's a solid, straightforward base for exploring Cornwall's quieter corners, especially if you're after coastal walks and proper solitude.

Just had the most delicious meal at The Watch House in St Mawes. Food was fabulous, the Cod curry is the best. Staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit and not just the takeaway!

The food here was outstanding. Ive heard they recently changed chef and I have to say literally everything we ate was fantastic. I massively recommend the teriyaki octopus - incredible stuff. The staff were also very attentive and very charming. Particularly id like to point out Jasmine who was fantastic and very funny and charming. Lovely experience overall.

Ordered fish and chips from the takeaway and was greeted by the rudest scouser behind the counter who clearly couldn't handle the pressure taking orders from an 8 person deep que. Looking around the small group of people waiting patiently for their food you could see everyone was getting quite annoyed watching him march around his little space like he thought he was gordon ramsay, the only difference is ramsay barks at the staff not the customers. I was hoping the quality of the food would improve my experience, but upon opening the box I found a piece of fish that I wouldn't even call a fish finger it was that small along with the driest chips known to man. Absolutely shocking from start to finish.
