This former threshing barn, now holiday accommodation, stands a few metres from the Camel Trail in rural Cornwall. The conversion has left it characterful—a woodburner in the open-plan living space sets the tone—while the riverside setting means you're surrounded by countryside that's protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The stretch of river here is managed for wildlife, so otters, deer and kingfishers are genuine possibilities rather than marketing copy.
Downstairs is a single open-plan space with kitchen, dining and living areas; a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer; and a separate toilet. Upstairs, two ensuite bedrooms: one with a zip-and-link king (which can split into singles), the other with a double bed. Both have their own bathrooms. An enclosed garden and patio give you private outdoor space, and there's also shared access to the riverside garden. One car parks on site; electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included, as are initial logs for the burner. The property sleeps 4 and welcomes one pet. No smoking.
Bodmin town is close by. Head west along the Camel Trail and you'll pass Camel Valley Vineyard before reaching Wadebridge, which has bike hire, shops and a cinema. Continue to Padstow and the estuary opens up—it's the working harbour and seafood restaurants that draw most visitors, though the narrow streets are their own draw.

Fantastic spot with really good use of space. Parking right outside your door, quality pub a short walk away, access to river frontage and private garden, and good central location for exploring Cornwall.

What a lovely place: the Chapel Barn. We had a warm welcome by the owners itself, fresh flowers on the table and cream tea in the fridge. The house is well equipped and decorated with taste. Next to the Camel trail for good walks (with the dog). And centrally located to visit the beautiful places of Cornwall. The owners Laura and Dave were very kind and helpful, just to make us feel comfortable and at home.

We had a wonderful holiday staying in Chapel Barn, it’s just the loveliest place and there are so many amazing places to visit. It’s so pretty, very well kitted out and immaculately clean, we were very comfy there as our base for showing our granddaughters the sights of Cornwall in August. It was our third stay at Chaple Barn. Having been for a week in April 2020, we booked again for August 2020 but Covid put paid to that plan so we went in August 2021, and again this August ‘22, bringing our granddaughters. The cottage has everything you need for a really comfortable stay. It’s set along the camel trail amongst beautiful walks in every direction. Our hosts Laura and Dave couldn’t be more helpful, nothing is too much trouble if you need anything. We can highly recommend a stay in Chaple Barn, in either the quieter months or the busy months. If you are there in April, the number and variety of rhododendrons at Lanhydrock House (National Trust) nearby is absolutely breathtaking; it took most of the day to see them all. Finally, it’s a good idea to book some things ahead if you have children with you for things like the Camel Creak theme park or the steam train trips.

In terms of the holiday lets in Cornwall you really can’t do much better than Chapel Barn in Bodmin. Dave and Laura are wonderful hosts and will do whatever they can to make your holiday stay as good as possible. You will kick off your holiday in style with a beautiful cream tea supplied by them. Chapel Barn is decorated to an beautiful standard. Downstairs is up and up is down in this gorgeous barn. Amenities include a private little courtyard for an evening drink in the summer sun and just opposite are steps leading down to a beautiful and exclusive garden area and picnic benches by a babbling river. There is also access to a barbecue and a fire pit. It’s a stunning location. Bodmin is going through a period of regeneration. And on top of that it’s only half an hour away from many locations key to Cornwall like Padstow, Looe and Polperro. We have been here three times now including our honeymoon. And we will be back.
