Little Owl Lodge

Photo: Little Owl Lodge

Saint Columb sits inland from Cornwall's coast, but Little Owl Lodge occupies an unusual position: a detached timber building set within the 40-acre grounds of the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre. The location puts you minutes from Padstow, Watergate Bay and Newquay's beaches, yet surrounded by woodland. The centre itself (open Easter to October) hosts regular displays and over 100 birds of prey; day passes cost £10 per person. Coarse fishing on-site requires a licence.

The property is arranged on a single level. A large open-plan space combines living area with dining and kitchen, with doors opening onto a decked veranda. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. Three bedrooms sleep six: one with a kingsize bed and ensuite shower, one with a double, one with two singles. A separate bathroom has a bath with shower over. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and electricity are included; heating comes from an air source heat pump with a wood burner for additional warmth. The lodge has wheelchair access, private parking for two cars, and an electric car charging point available at cost. One dog may stay free.

The A39 is close by, making this a useful base for touring. The Camel Trail—a cycling and walking route following the river between Padstow and Bodmin—is minutes away. Newquay offers beaches and surf facilities. The Eden Project is a 30-minute drive, and National Trust gardens are accessible from here. The property is let to families and couples only. No smoking inside.

A week's stay here in Feb and will definitely return. Well appointed, comfortable and warm. Spacious living area. The location is perfect for getting to many beaches, coastlines and attractions. Nicely prepared with clear instructions and other information If we'd had any sun the deck would be great for sunsets!

Our home for the week and set in a great location from which to explore North Cornwall. 10 minute drive to Newquay and 20 mins to Padstow. All very modern inside and with the added bonus of a hot tub outside in a private decking area. All on one level so great if you have young children. There was a nice seating area outside with a BBQ also. A decent sized driveway which can easily fit two cars on maybe even 3. The whole site is a gated community, so it's very secure and secluded.

Great location easy to get to anywhere in Cornwall. A little noise from the main road in rush hour but the accommodation is awesome. Log burner, decking walks in woods to the lakes. Secluded and secure.
