Moorhens Cottage is a detached thatched house built from honey-coloured stone, set within Lower Mill Estate—a 550-acre lakeside nature reserve in the Cotswold Water Parks. The building overlooks the River Thames Mill Race from its large wrap-around decking, and the wider estate offers five lakes, walking routes, and the kind of wildlife habitat that draws beavers as permanent residents. This is a quiet location, suited to those seeking tranquillity rather than social bustle.
Three bedrooms sleep six: two doubles with ensuite showers on the first floor, and a third with twin single beds. The ground floor holds a living room with woodburner, separate dining room, and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric range, dishwasher, and the usual appliances. A shower room completes the layout. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are provided; the initial load of wood for the burner is included. One dog stays free of charge.
The cottage shares access to a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and bike and SUP hire. Somerford Keynes village, a five-minute walk away, has a pub serving home-cooked food and real ales. You can park one car on site; additional spaces are available nearby. Smoking is not permitted.

What guests say
A beautiful and well appointed cottage made a lovely base for our holiday on a fantastic site. We took full advantage of it having a boat available and being only a couple of minutes walk from the pool. We would definitely recommend it.
