Caldbeck and the surrounding fells sit within easy reach of Keswick's lakes and mountains, Cockermouth's market charm, and countless fell walks that start from the doorstep. The village itself has cafés, antique shops and a working farm where children can meet the animals. A 15-minute drive puts you at Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite, with their launches, cycle routes and lakeside attractions. From here you can walk over Skiddaw into Keswick proper, or drive to Cockermouth or the Scottish border within an hour.
Ellerbeck Cottage is the end property in a converted barn on a working sheep and beef farm, two and a half miles from the village. It has a double and two singles across two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bath and shower. Downstairs, an open-plan space combines living and dining areas around a woodburner, with a kitchen equipped to cook proper meals. One dog stays free. Bed linen, towels and electricity are all included, as is the initial fuel for the stove. There is enclosed garden space with seating, and parking for two cars on site. WiFi is available throughout.
The cottage suits families wanting to combine active exploring with somewhere to return to, and those travelling with a dog. No smoking inside. Arrive after three in the afternoon, and leave by ten in the morning.
